Do you think Dr Korby was having sex with Andrea?

:vulcan: Does a bear sh*t in the woods?

We're in a TREK forum. Technically, that's "does a targ or sehlat shit in the woods?" :p

Technically, sehlats have only been seen onscreen in the desert... but in Alan Dean Foster's novelization for "Yesteryear" it was said that they originated in the rain forests of Vulcan's southern hemisphere. So, no... I'd have to say that sehlats do not shit in the woods.

NOW, we're in a Trek forum. ;)

Korby was an android.
I though that his ship had crashed on the planet an his consious had been transfered into the android body?
so with them both being androids it would be pointless to build her for sex

You just out-nerded me. Give yourself a medal.

Korby: The flesh -- the flesh has warmth. There's even a pulse. Physical sensation.
Chapel: How convenient.
Korby: Christine, you must realize an android's like a computer. It does only what I program. As a scientist, you must realize--
Chapel: -- that given a mechanical Dr. Brown, a mechanical geisha would be no more difficult.
Korby: You think I could love a machine?
Chapel: Did you? (Hee.)
Korby: Andrea's incapable of that. She simply obeys orders. She has no meaning for me. There's no emotional bond.

Only Vast amounts of tireless Sex, as programmed. But then it got weird. Poor Andrea had feelings after all. She fell in love with Korby and he killed them both. Sick!

Nah, Ruk told Korby he deserved a different kind of thing... thing... thing...
Yikes! You made me jump! And laugh to imagine Harry Mudd traveling further and further out into space every time he thinks of her.

Maybe he was just a holovid hobbyist with a passion for the kinky. He obviously has some small talent for fashion design. (Though not for the Male body. Poor Ruk... Was that an Ancient Ones creation or did Korby do that to him before he came up with Andrea?)

"Do you think Dr Korby was having sex with Andrea?"

God yes! He must have been replacing her legs every three days!*

*I'm being polite here!

I need to see this ep again and refresh my memory. I can't remember the details but I think the answer is yes.

my confusion: who built Andrea? the real Dr. Korby or the android Dr. Korby?

The episode does not make clear when Korby got into the bad jam he (in his android form) describes thus:

Korby: "I was frozen, dying. My legs were gone. I was, I had only my brain between life and death."

It might have happened on the icy surface before he found Ruk and the underground wonders. More probably, though, he had a chance to study and reprogram Ruk before the accident happened, or else Ruk wouldn't have been in any mood to help the dying Korby. And if Korby had a chance to study and reprogram Ruk, one would think he would very quickly have proceeded with creating the android Andrea and Brown - not much of a time window there for his near-fatal accident and subsequent consciousness transfer.

So my personal bet would be that the real live Korby built Andrea and Brown (perhaps in that order), and from those experiments gained the skill to build a new body for himself and then the confidence to wear it.

As for the other matter, the android Korby seems confident in his ability to love. Why wouldn't he build a sex doll for himself, even if he was made of steel? Especially if he was made of steel? The consciousness transfer must have felt like a fountain of youth for the aging scholar!

I agree that Andrea is likely the result of Korby's early work with the machine. However, is it possible Andrea was a member of the expedition as well?

Chapel doesn't know her, but would she have necessarily known every team member accompanying Korby? The original dead Andrea may have been duplicated first as a test of the equipment. It requires both a physical and a mental pattern to replicate onto the android. Her corpse--or her frozen beyond hope body--provided the form and Korby the substance, such as it was, writing on the blank slate of the android's mind as he pleased.

I'd buy that much more readily than to think Korby the archaeologist had the artistic skill to sculpt a female body himself in order to create Andrea. Even modifying a female counterpart of Ruk's seems a bit much to ask, assuming they resemble him in any way, especially in terms of size.

Personally I do, why else would he build her to be so pretty? And even if it was just coincidence at first there's no way he'd be able to resist no matter how loyal he felt to Nurse Chapel.

Soitenly! I would do her myself..

Does the word, "Duh!" ring a bell? :techman:! It's made even clearer when Chapel says something like, well, you made an android Brown, so a mechanical Geisha makes sense, too. Korby says, "Do you think I could love a machine?" Chapel quips, "Did you?" And he evades the question by saying Andrea is incapable of love and just follows orders.

One thing I always wondered. Was Brown just an android duplicate, or did Korby transfer his soul, as he did with himself and Kirk, into an android body? That's not so clear from the ep.

I think we need Ruk and Andrea smilies!
