I think they should have just paid the guy who came up with this and used it:

MUCH BETTER.

And beautiful. THIS is what slightly tweaking visual canon should be about.:bolian:

This version has much more in common with the new Enterprise than with the TOS-Enterprise.

  • the neck
  • the deflector area
  • the 'foreskin' on the secondary hull (only upside-down)
  • the much sturdier pylons
  • the nacelle 'foreskins'

I won't argue that, except to say that it still looks better than the one we're gonna see in the movie.

I like the new ship. It looks enough like the old it's recognizable. And it's not fugly like the Galaxy class.
I'd rate it my third favorite Enterprise so far. Right behind the refit and the original.

I do like the new ship and I think have done a good job tweaking the original design just enough to make it modern without going too far away from the original concept.

I'm in the middle since I like the new hull and design elements but hate the nacelles. So I guess I voted no.

Best, most beautiful and balanced incarnation of any Enterprise yet. Very nice lines and angles, very cool looking 50's flair to it. While keeping the original design aspects intact it does very well what it was meant to do.

Be recognizable as the Enterprise by anyone fan or not. Update a classic design for the 21st Century.

that certainly looks much better than what ive seen of the new movie ship.

And it looks as if you took the surface detailing of 22nd century NX-class ships and crossed them with 90% of the classic TOS ship and one-tenth of the movie-era refits. A near perfect hybrid.

That pic looks ridiculous. Like a 'steam-punk' Enterprise. He just took the basic ship and added a bunch of junk to it.

I FAR prefer the new movie Enterprise.

I certainly far prefer the Abramsprise to Gabe's design, yeah.

Gabe's a talented artist, but his version of the Enterprise leaves me pretty cold.

I think it's a fine mesh of the movie designs as well as the original classic TOS ship as reimagined for the Remastered version of the series. But to each their own. Gabe's retains more than enough of the original, classic ship that you don't think you're seeing a brand-new vessel from the start.

Well, there are particular things - some of the shapes, for example. What is the cross section shape of the engineering hull elements? It's not a circle, or quite an elipse - it's kind of a shape with big curves on the sides blending into small curves at the "corners" or something and to me it just looks lumpy and misshapen. It's not pleasing.

There are a number of things like that about it that really bug me (people talk about the lines of the interconnecting dorsal on the Abramsprise, for example - well, what's all of that stuff going on there in Gabe's version? What sense does any of it make?) but everyone is going to have their own response to it.
