I got the impression that a huge number of people went to see the movie on opening weekend, then left the theatres angry and reported to all their friends that it sucked so nobody else went to see it.

"Nemesis" was the only ST movie not to win its first US weekend of opening. It was sorely beaten by "Maid in Manhattan", a J-Lo movie.

Polaris, he's saying that nobody did. Do you work for Paramount, by the way?

that's a yes.... want some salt for your foot?
That's not a "yes" at all... there's a difference between having worked, contractually, on two occasions, for a company and being an employee of that company.

Harlan Ellison wrote "City on the Edge of Forever." And the final produced episode far more closely resembled his original idea than "Tin Man" resembled the short-story that Dennis and his partner wrote which "Tin Man" was based upon.

So, does that mean that Harlan Ellison "works for Paramount?" Should he then, also, have complete, full knowledge of what's going on with this movie, or with the accounting practices of the company?

No?

The reason that Nemesis failed is because the story sucked.

I wouldn't necessarily argue with that. It's a different assertion than that hard-core Trekkies didn't line up and push the turkey to 40-million-plus, domestically. It's real hard for an awful movie to make that kind of money absent a dedicated audience. ;)

People have been thrown out of Star Trek offices for better sories[sic].
Not really. Worse have been filmed.

that's a yes...
No, it's not. It means that I did some free-lance work for TNG for a brief period before some posters were born.
Okay then you did work for paramount briefly, still gives you a bit more insight on how they work than someone who doesn't

Well, far as I can find "Maid" beat "Nemesis" by a little less than two hundred thou on opening weekend. I'm not sure that's "sorely beaten," though it's not a happy fact.

What I mean is are you being paid to promote this film or monitor these boards for any reason. I liked tin man. What did they do to it ?

I got that, and shrugged it off like always - you're at least the thirtieth person to suggest that over the years. It's a really unoriginal way to try to undercut an opinion one disagrees with.

I liked tin man. What did they do to it ?

Thanks. They did very little to it, adjusting the opening and closing scenes some, eliminating an extraneous second Romulan ship during the first encounter at Beta Stromgren, and substituting Troi for Riker in a Sickbay scene in a way that made a lot more sense. I'd say that for better or l-o-n-g-e-r about ninety-five percent of our dialogue was left alone.

So you are being paid something other than royalties for being here? BTY, I think those scenes would have helped it - the Romulan ship adding drama and such. I believe there were Romulans in it ? It would have been interesting if the creature took over the ship and imployed mind control to give it a certain amount of intelligence and identity and jeopardy for the crew and maybe if it could morph and fool the crew. Braga was good on story but bad on development. What else did you write?

No, I don't get paid any money to be here. I don't work for anybody in the entertainment business, not for decades. Jesus, where do you come up with stuff like that?

Braga was a WGA intern during the time I wrote my TNG scripts, BTW. He had nothing to do with them.

Wait...

You got PAID to write for TNG??? You didn't pay them for the priviledge???

What kind of fan are you????

P.S. and how did Braga manage to ruin Star Trek while he was still an intern?? I know it's all his fault. Everyone here says so!!!

So you are being paid something other than royalties for being here?

xortex, are you trying to sound foolish here?

Some people make assumptions based on their personal feelings, without having any real knowledge of the behind the scenes mechanics. I do it too, but I try to be better informed about my opinions. Not everyone here has to have an ulterior motive behind their opinions.

If he's a plant you're an anti-plant, being paid by Roddenberry's estate to ensure this movie fails....

And there folx is your moment of whaddafug???

But how do you feel about the new NCC-1701? (Asks he, attempting to steer this back on topic)

I like it too. I love the new bridge, and I'm intrigued by the notion that the look of the ship will grow less refined and progressively more industrial and working-class as it descends from top to bottom decks. I am very excited to see what Engineering looks like!

Slightly off topic Neopeius for a moment...please forgive the intrusion. I like your Avatar. Bright Noah is one of my alltime favorite characters. Nice watercolor...where was it from..a illustration portfolio or from a Roman Album? Would like to see the entire piece it came from. Long time old school Gundam fan here since 1985. Even had a ( old..) friend who has worked on some of the 0083 and later series. That's one show I would like to see brought to America in CGI. Big long time Yashihiku Yazikazu fan here.
