Do you know your IQ?

Never been tested, so I don't have a clue.

I'm always told I'm smart when talking to people IRL, but who knows what that really equates to on paper...

A question, how does one go about getting tested for this?

Yes I know, but I was taught that bragging about such things was rude. I'll just say it's in the upper end of the scale, with strong amplitudes in creative-writing, deductive reasoning and problem-solving; with above average abilities to grasp complex mathematical and scientific concepts.

Neuropsychological evaluation. Look up psychiatrist in the phone book. They're not cheap.

and BTW, if it were to be thought that I was somehow "bragging" about my IQ, I am very well aware that 110 is "high average" on the IQ spectrum.

I know, some people have an aversion to the whole concept of "IQ" but have you been tested? Do you know yours?

Yes, and yes. I have found the IQ tests I've taken over the years to give consistent results. I'm not sure if that means anything...

Many tests in school, military and private - let's just say it would be near one of the ends of a bell curve.

----------------

Imagine someone born with the brainpower of Einstein, but NO education at all....primative location. Now imagine your avg degree holder. I am confident that I could tell which is which in 2 mins of conversation(assuming we all spoke a common language) and a written test would not be fair.

Amazing mental powers can be present in someone that can't tie a shoe.........savants - are they genius? I've only ever heard of one person that had savant "talents" and was still basically "normal."

It is always a big debate on what intelligence really is.....so how to measure it depends.

Yes, I know what my IQ is and yes I've been professionally tested numerous times throughout my life.

But here is something to take into consideration... I've been lucky enough to have some of the best (mathematical) minds alive today work with me and vouch for my abilities. And none of them have ever asked me what my IQ was.

I've met some quite gifted people who have scored low on these tests and I've met people I'm amazed can find their way out the door in the morning who have scored exceptionally high on them. So frankly I don't think it is wise to worry about how you (or anyone else) scored on these tests.

Einstein couldn't tie his shoes... He also couldn't remember his address, or his phone number (and this was an era of much simpler phone numbers).

Who says it's a worry? People can't simply be curious? It's kind of cool to know.

Me too. I don't share mine IRL, but since I'm just a blue transformer to you folks I have no qualms.

And I am a little blue Cyborg. :)

I was tested when I was around 12 or 13, I forget exactly.

It was an official Mensa test, though. I still have the certificate.

I scored 178.

Never took an official or real test. I've taken lots of online "tests" but never received consistent results. I'm assuming it's reasonably high; academically speaking, I tend to outperform (discounting for effort) in math and reading comprehension.

I went to a neruopsycologist a few months ago and he said I was extremely intelligent and possibly ONE OF the most intelligent people he has met. He didnt give me a number or anything tho. So I dont know, I do however know that I have a big vocabulary and my motor skills suck.

Also.........

A 15 year old with a given score is not going to be as "smart" as a 40 year old with the same score. The test is age related so we older members can spot you kids a few points

Tested twice near genius level as a kid (11 or so), but haven't cared enough in the last decade to test again. I know I got smarts and don't really think much of IQ numbers anymore based on some of the people I've met who claim to have genius level scores.

You don't gain any points due to age. You simply acquire more knowledge.
That 15 yearm old based on having the same IQ rating as the 40 year old,
has the same potential for learning and being as smart when they are 40 years old.

Just because one has a high potential inteligence level, doesn't mean they use it. ;)
