Do you have a favorite SHOT that makes you go whoa!

There are quite a few to choose from, but the one that comes to mind at the moment is the scene from ST:FC when the Enterprise-E swoops in and takes the shot from the Borg cube meant for the Defiant.

-From VOY, seeing Voyager crashing into the ice planet in "Timeless." I wasn't a fan of the CGI used on the show, but that scene was fantastic (the shot where we see the ship buried beneath the ice was cool too).

:bolian: Must agree, that scene was fantastic. Don't get to see many star ships crash land on a planet.

Another one I remembered:

-"The Chute" (VOY), when Ensign Kim struggles to climb the chute only to find that he and Paris aren't trapped underground. The camera pans out and you can see the look of defeat on his face.

I love the aforementioned shot of the Federation/Klingon armada in Call To Arms. It nearly put me to tears and it did make me yell out "FINALLY!!!". :)

There are a lot of great shots throughout Trek. Another one that comes to mind is the destruction of the Xindi-Aquatic ship in Countdown.

The iconic one from TWOK, when Spock's casket makes orbit above Genesis.

Two from ENT come to mind. I think it's Shadows of P'Jem (I could be wrong about the ep), the shot starts out in deep space, looking at the tiny NX-01, then slowly zooms in, until you can see the captain staring out the porthole of his Ready Room. I love that. And my favorite of all of the series and movies: Archer running for his life as the Xindi weapon explodes.

I've never really thought of Star Trek, even the theatrical productions, even the good theatrical productions, as having a particular strength in mise-en-scene, however. This is not to say they never succeed--they're usually quite competent, just not so awesome as to impress upon you, "the director did a great job here."

This is unfortunately true, but it's one of the areas in which the newest Star Trek film improves upon its originating material.
I totally concur. One thing I liked able ST11 is that it was directed.

I would like to say that my criticisms are more squarely aimed at the TNG films than the TOS ones--though far from exclusively toward them.

Well, The shot of The big three crossing the mountain/bridge in the remastered version of Amok Time was pretty mindblowing.

This painfully brief shot of the Enterprise approaching the Amargosa observatory is pretty awesome, IMO. I really wish they would have let it linger on screen for a few more seconds.

The famous shot of the mother parasite in the TNG ep "Conspiracy" was definitely a "Whoa!" moment, not exactly a favorite though.

One favorite of mine was the "separating the hull plating" shot from ENT's "Minefield" -- from about 0:20 to about 1:00 here. It's not big or particularly epic in the way the big fleet scenes or exploding things are, but I thought it was nicely done, especially where Archer is looking over the edge. (There's an explosion a little later in the clip, if anyone really wants to see one.)

The moment in Sacrifice of Angels where the Defiant leads the charge into the Dominion fleet. (6:03 in this video) I had waited far too many years to see a big-ass UFP fleet taking someone on and that shot was the moment where it finally happened.

The moment in Scorpion when the dozen Borg cubes flew past Voyager and flung the ship about in their wake.

And, of course, The Adama Manoeuvre. I don't care if that's not from Trek, it is amazing.

Reliant and Enterprise searching for each other, passing very closely, yet unaware of the other's location in the Mutara Nebula in The Wrath of Khan.

Voyager passing through the rings of the planet in the opening credits - never mind that the ship would not be likely to ever do that, but it's a really cool shot.

The moment in BOBW Part 1 when the Cube first appears, way small, off in the distance...

TMP - the pan under the E just as it goes to warp. It's the same shot they used in the first TUC teaser that they super-ed the images all over.

i like that one. actually, i love the entire sequence revealing the enterprise. its like the camera is making love to the ship.
No one does space porn like Trek! (and I mean that in a good way)
It's not a flashy shot, but I always liked the end of "Family," when young Rene Picard is sitting under a tree looking up at the stars, "dreaming about starships and adventures..." And then we see a shooting star streak across the sky...or is it the Enterprise, off on its next mission? ~_-
This is one of TNG's better moments.

The iconic one from TWOK, when Spock's casket makes orbit above Genesis.
The whole funeral scene is still classic Trek, but that shot as "Amazing Grace" plays is beautifully sad.
Let me add, the haunting tune as Picard plays at the end of "Inner Light".

oh yes...they're both are beautiful.

Another shot i love is at the end of Darmok, where Picard is by the window in his ready room, and he has Dathon's knife (is it?) and he touches his forehead....imitating what he saw Dathon do on the planet. I think that's such a beautiful moment.

Worf shooting a Klingon in the engine room, and he crashes through three decks through glass.

That made me go whoa indeed, because it was pretty unexpected and very cool.
