Do you ever just sing?

Whistling is more my thing.

I wish I could whistle better. My husband and I have been making our way through X-Files and I've taken to whistling the theme music during each episode because it's something I can actually whistle!

Man, do I annoy him.

and I don't mean sing favorite showtunes in the shower, or sing along with the radio etc
I mean sing without a song . . .
I was driving home tonight after spending time with friends, and instead of listening to my zune or the radio I just started singing
no words, just 'aaaahhhh' etc
I was just following where my voice wanted to go . . . it was refreshing, and relaxing, and since I had no idea what I was doing I have no way of repeating it and it was totally unique . . .
does anyone else take enjoyment from singing aimlessly?

I sing a lot :)... probably too much.

I also have a really accurate and clean sounding whistle so I tend to do that a lot too.

Sometimes the music appears in my head and I sing along to it. But only when no one else is around. :shifty:

I was completely unable to whistle until about 8th grade or so. Then all at once I figured it out. It's just one of those things.

Actually, just this morning at work I spontaneously broke out with a rendition of "The Old Gray Mare." Don't ask me why, though...

I used to sing a lot more than I do now. These days, music almost hurts. I think it's because I don't sing very well, and it discourages me, because of how much I love good singing. I used to sing a lot to try to improve, but I think I've reached the point of realism where I know it's just not going to get any better than it is right now.

I still sing in groups, and even (reluctantly) the occasional solo. But I rarely just sing for myself anymore.

I can whistle adequately with my mouth, but i have never been able to do one of those whistles where you stick your hand in your mouth. I don't even know what's going on when they do that.

I love to sing and I mostly sing for my own enjoyment. I make up songs for my pets and children, just like my dad did. I sing while driving and sometimes people act like they think I'm cursing at them when I'm just singing some nonsense song. Actually, everything is a song intro for me. If someone says, "It's a quarter to three", I'll immediately sing, "And no one in the place, except you and me, so...".

Does karaoke count? Don't look at me; I'm Asian. ;) Anyway, I sing to myself when I'm mostly listening to the radio in the car.

My boss, when he's in a perky mood in the morning, hums and sings, too. He can be annoying, especially when it's early in the morning, and I feel like a zombie having just come in to the office.

Boss: Good morning! How are you today?
Me: :borg:

Of course I do. Singing is one of my "natural" forms of expression. I usually don't make up a song with words on the spot though. When I make one up, it's usually something I would like to play on my fiddle...but by the time I get it out, I forget it. I can come up with a complete reel or jig in my head, and as much as I'd love to write it on paper, I never seem able to. I also like to break out in vocal exercises. It's quite common for me to start singing an exercise that works it's way up the scale in thirds, go up and down the scale, then move to fourths. No clue why I do it...but it at least helps me keep my voice conditioned.
