Do you crack your knuckles?

I know they say it's bad for you, but I do it anyway . . .
it feels good, and my joints feel better afterwards

what say you? is knuckle cracking disgusting or a habit you can't stop?

:D

All of my first knuckles, second knuckles minus the thumbs, most third knuckles sporadically. Refractory periods are around 30m, shorter on the second knuckles, longer on the third. :)

Never...and when people do it around me, I cringe as if someone was scraping fingernails along a chalkboard. It really annoys me for some reason.

Used to, lovely way to annoy people! But It started to actually hurt in my joints so I stopped doing and the pain is gone.

I do. Sometimes, my joints feel sore and rigid, and cracking makes them feel better and more relaxed. Besides, it's a very concise and explicit way to threaten someone, which is always a good thing in my book.

Do you agree, dontcha? <cra-crack>

I love the way Bruce Lee often cracked his knuckles in movies just by clenching his fist before starting a fight - crrrrchcrrrackchch. :D

Never. But I can pop the joint in my hip. I was born with a broken hip, so I can pop it when it gets stiff.

from what I read on wikipedia, scientists aren't really sure what causes the popping sound . . . most likely cavitation as the separation of the joint by over stretching it causes a decrease in pressure in the joint which then forces some gasses to come out of solution in the joint fluids . . .
I'm guessing most of the damage would be caused by over stressing the joints, tendons and ligaments

I dunno . . . all I know is that I do it far too much :D

Yeah, from what I've picked up through various chem and bio classes, it's just the joint lubrication fluid vaporizing, by being pushed out of the joint spaces so quickly, I'd presume.

i do and I can even recall they day i started. I was in class during junior high school and I tried doing it and it worked. Every since then I feel like I am almost addicted to doing it. I can also pop my anckles and sometimes my arms and I use to could do my neck as well but that started to hurt and I can't do it anymore.

I "crack my knuckles and jump for joy because I get a clean bill of health from Dr. McCoy!!" :guffaw:

Is "crack your knuckles" a euphemism for masturbation now? :bolian:

my thumb knuckles crack themselves if i just flex them. I do crack my other knuckles as well, but not usually around people. I know some have the "fingernails on chalkboard" reaction. I can also crack my knees and my ankles and some of my toes.

I wish I could do that... sigh...

I crack quite a few joints including my knuckles while stretching a bit first thing after getting up in the morning (yeah, I really need to do some proper exercise). Apart from that, no, not really.
