Do the Re-Used Effects in WYLB bother you?

I seem to remember in A Voice in the Wilderness they reused the same shot of the shuttle pulling up from the planet while being fired upon twice in the space of a few minutes. I could be mistaken though, they might have just been very similar.

I don't personally mind it myself. What does irk me is when they put out a star trek movie and don't give us a light show or epic battle. The new star trek provides this and I only wish they would have made all other movies much more entertaining instead of another season episode.

^^
I think you're right on that shot. But, ultimately, it's not as big a deal as re-using large portions of previous battle sequences to hide the fact that the DS9 finale couldn't afford the epic battle sequence it deserved. But I've never been a *huge* fan of the finale, anyway.

I wouldn't say they bothered me that much, since when I first watched WYLB I wanted to see a resolution to long running storylines and character arcs instead of kewlspacebattles!OMG.
You and me both then. The last time I watched Star Trek for the space battles was when I was ten years old. :p

Looking at it from a different perspective, maybe the reused CGI scenes were a metaphor for the repetitiveness of war and world-weariness of the characters?
I dunno. You might as well say Saavik's change of appearance in Star Trek III – The Search for Spock was a metaphor for the theme of resurrection and reincarnation then.

Well why not? That's the delicious thing about interpretation of metaphor.

I'm not a big fan of the finale either. I have noticed and seen the re use of the scenes but doubt I could pull it off like they did. It's good to know that the best trek series had a much better finale than TNG or the despicable ENT and VOY series.

If on one hand I had the story itself, which required the use of the recurring characters to be told well, and on the other hand I had the need for special effects in the finale, I'd go with the story.

While it was kind of a shame the final battle was pretty much just stock footage from episodes which everyone had instant recall of, it would have been an even bigger dissapointment if suddenly 15 people were just never heard from again based on their not being able to pay the actors to be in the episode.

In a perfect world I'd have both- but understanding it was one or the other, I'd go the route they ultimately did.

So true

The re-use annoyed me somewhat at the time but even then I figured they blew their season budget at that point and no one could be persuaded to make an allowance or exception.

It didn't really bother me. Star Trek Generations used footage from TNG and Star Trek VI.

People seem to overlook the great battle scenes What You Leave Behind did have, like the Defiant's looping scene or when the Cardassians fired on the Dominion and the Breen. Someone mentioned that there was no money to add the 74205-A registry to the model, although the scene with the Defiant maneuvering away from the Breen is obviously a brand new scene. Let's also not forget the iconic image of the Dominion fleet and installations over Cardassia.

I don't think I noticed it at the time, but yeah, in retrospect it's annoying. But then I didn't like them getting shipped out a new Defiant almost as soon as the old one blew up, that sort of took the wind out of the sails from that event (which in itself felt contrived, but whatever... the Breen were never a great idea.)

That really pissed me off, actually. It's a movie; reusing the same damn explosion from the last one and shots of the Enterprise from the TV show should not be the sort of blatantly obvious cost cutting measures I see on screen.
