News Disney's Live Action Mulan

It's going to be on Disney+, but you'll have to pay $29.99 to watch it.

I really hope this doesn't set a precedent. I get they want to recoup the losses, but I already paid for the subscription service. If this leads to double dipping when they sell the subscription service as a be all in the TOS, than I don't think I will be happy about that.

Damn, that's disappointing. That was the one live action of an animated classic that I was actually looking forward to seeing on the big screen.

Not only that, but no non-IMAX theater charges that much for a film. I know I've been pretty lucky with the theaters I've frequented over the years, but there's no way regular theaters have gotten that expensive.

I doubt they'll be able to keep this up for long. For that kind of money, people will mostly either not bother paying and just wait until it goes on general digital release, or go visit a friendly peg-legged mariner of the "yarr-har" persuasion.
Now they might get the bright idea to extend the period between this premium release (or whatever they're calling it) and the not-pay-per-view one, but I can't see that helping matters.

That's assuming people will be watching this alone, and not with their families/housemates/friends.

$30 is ridiculous after you already pay for the subscription. I could see $10 or $15 dollars, but $30 is just way to much.

For people with families it's a lot cheaper then a night at the movies.

And for Disney they get all the money, so need to make fewer sales to make a profit.

They are basically charging family prices and if you do want to see it alone, (Which is basically my life) it's a significant overcharge.
So wait a few months and rent it at Redbox for $2, or wait a few more months to watch it on Disney+ for free. Or would you prefer they offer single-viewer pricing if you turned on your laptop/mobile camera, to show you were watching it by yourself?

I actually like the third option, if it means I can rent it for half of what they are currently asking for and I can watch it with most everyone else and talk about it with most everyone else.

Yeah, but you're not already paying for a monthly or yearly subscription to the theater. My issue isn't with the price alone, it's the fact that it's $30 on top of my subscription. If this was just a paid rental on Amazon, ITunes, Google Play, ect. it wouldn't be so bad, but the whole reason I subscribe to services like Disney+ is so I don't have pay to watch movies like this. This is an extraordinary situation, so I could forgive a small fee, but this is not a small fee.

I enjoy the cartoon, but one of the trailers showing action that was too ridiculously over the top for me killed all interest that I had in seeing this.

For me, it would be a good deal for any movie my family wanted to see. That's if they want to see it though--I haven't liked any the live action remakes so far.

I would pay if it was 15 bucks. Yeah this is an extraordinary situation and I respect that they want to recoup losses from what was originally supposed to be a March release. I just feel like this will set a precedent, like how all the companies wanted their own streaming service after seeing what Netflix did, that should not be set in terms of the whole idea of paying for a subscription and then having to pay a high fee on top of that subscription.

For me, I would probably just get some of my daughters and their friends and my friends and just watch it. Make a huge movie night out of it and have fun. It looks like a blast.
Also, even if the 30 lasts long (again-I'm doubtful, given the CEO's comments that this isn't a new business model) why not just split it with friends?

The Huns lose. Mulan survives. There are no talking dragon sidekicks. There, now you can talk about it with everyone. You're welcome. :)

You weren't sold a Disney+ subscription on the basis of getting to see brand-new big-budget films at no extra charge.
