News Disney's Live Action Mulan

How many times do the characters have to break into song to qualify as a musical?
I tend to think of musicals as containing a significant number of "songs for the sake of songs"

Mulan's songs were either introspective or tied to the action (foggy recollection here, I may have missed one) not "hey let's break up the actions with a song"

In any case, it only had 4 songs sung by the characters - which isn't much by Disney standards.

Most musicals have the story significantly carried by the songs, at least in that the characters voice their most important thoughts and motivations through the vehicle of the singing.

Four sung by characters, but five within the reality of the film. (The end credits song actually starts within the film and is "interacted" with by the characters.)

I was a little surprised to see the release date in July, it seems almost everything currently scheduled for July is being pushed back to the end of the year.

I guess they want to be basically the first movie everyone sees when they get free.

I wonder though how Wonder Woman will affect the success

It's got a couple weeks before WW1984, so that gives it a bit of space, but I don't see it being able to stand much of a chance once that one's out.

Mulan has now been pushed back again, to August 21 this time.
I'm starting to think they'd be better off just not putting down a date until they actually know for sure when this stuff is going to be opening. With everything going on now, I'm pretty sure people would understand.
Yeah
.. my wife probably won't let my daughters go to yhe theaters even in August.

Man... 2020 was supposed to be the year of the woman for family action movies...

I think most of the ones that are closed aren't going to open until Tenet comes out.

It still could. Think about; these films are prevented from opening (re/oppressed) for months. Then at the end of the year, they all come out at once in this vast blaze of glory. Sound familiar?

It's going to be on Disney+, but you'll have to pay $29.99 to watch it.
