Disney Scraps Plans For Further Star Wars Storys

What I think they mean to say is everything is on hold until episode 9 is made and released. If it makes tons and tons of money everything goes back as if "Solo" never happened. If it looses money it means Kennedy is fired along with many other people we never even heard or talked about and new people are brought in to come up with a new gameplan on what to do, next.

I never got that from TFA. I didn't think TLJ would be Luke's story. It was always going to be about Rey and the rest of the new cast. I never expected Luke to be anything other then the Obi-Wan (from the original trilogy) of this story. A bit player, nothing more. The fact that he got what I felt was a pretty awesome ending in TLJ was a bonus for me. But in reality, his story was done in the original trilogy.
That is not how I framed it. I felt in TFA they were seeking Luke. He was the defining moment of the last scene.

I cannot say how disappointing it was to see his characterisation being degraded in Last Jedi. I mean even that title was a mean tease. It made the Rey story seem Mary Sue to me.

I hope that this rumor isn’t true. I loved “Solo” but I think it was always going to be a hard sell due to recasting Han Solo. A Kenobi spinoff wouldn’t have this problem. Nor would Boba Fett since most people don’t really remember the guy behind the helmet, so recasting him isn’t as impossible as replacing Harrison Ford.

Add to that the enormous amount of money they have invested in two massive theme parks dedicated entirely to a franchise that is losing fans in droves and a lightning rod is the last thing they're going to want around.

Don’t worry about Galaxy’s Edge. That’s going to be a huge hit no matter what the movies do. This is the biggest thing to hit Disneyland since the park opened and will be a major boon for the lackluster Disney Hollywood Studios. Just look at how big of a draw Pandora is at Disney Animal Kingdom and “Avatar” isn’t nearly as popular as “Star Wars.”

I think Episode 9 is going to make lots of money because liked pointed out in another thread they seem to have no competition at all. Still with no Luke,Solo or Leia I wouldn't be shocked if it somehow flopped. I don't know if SW is quite as reliable anymore as the Marvel Movies. One thing episode 9 has going for it is that it seems like the movie can be about anything since all the old stories seem to be over. I think people are going to be curious about that. Also I think Abrams sort of implies it's going to be more action-adventure than drama that tries to take a new look at the universe. This might sound crazy but I could also see them using Kenobi, Anakin,Yoda and Luke all in the movie together. Maybe as cameo's and who knows a cameo with Solo and CGI or deleted scene of Leia. If the movie is about ending the first trilogy I think they will want to ackowledge that in some manner.

I wonder if that differing perception is a key reason that different people liked or disliked TLJ? I can see why TLJ would be a let down if you went in with an expectation of it being focused on Luke.

No Solo or Leia, sure. But there's no reason there can't be more Luke. After all Obi-Wan died in the first movie and was still able to make appearances in the next two. :)

And it would be pretty easy to cast Mark Hamill for a small role and keep it secret. He'd do all his scenes on a green screen and so only a small number of crew (all signed to secrecy) would have to know.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed The Force Awakens. I was given a movie pass for Christmas and trooped up to the cinema all giddy with anticipation. I enjoyed it! I did however LOVE that moment at the end. It was the heart of Star Wars as I have seen it. The Last Jedi was going to be Master Luke passing the torch. It did rather hurt a bit to see the way he was seen off.

That's fair enough. That's the best reason I've seen so far for not liking TLJ. If you went in expecting one thing and got something completely different its perfectly reasonable to be upset.

Why no Solo? I know Ford never really proably wanted to even come back and do SW again but it would be a single scene. I think he might be on board for a single scene, also knowing that this basically the end of a era for SW. In fact when you think about George Lucas should proably be allowed to do something. Maybe direct a scene or be a extra or something in the movie.

I'm assuming no Solo because he's dead and isn't a jedi so can't return as a force ghost. He could return in a flashback but Star Wars doesn't have a history of doing those.

And I'm gonna be upfront and say that George Lucas should never be allowed to be involved in Star Wars again.

They're probably thinking about money now.
What did you think I meant by "same fate"?

Of course, there's another explanation - with the addition of the Fox movies, Disney will have less need for a Star Wars film a year.

I was about to post about Comcast possibly having something to say about that. Then I did a Google search. Guess that's what I get for having a crazy busy day yesterday.

I doubt they are. This is a rumor from a site that has bias against the Disney Star Wars films, it's almost certainly bullshit. Especially since Disney hasn't even responded to it. There are just a lot of people who take joy in that idea and are happy to push it because ruining Star Wars for actual fans bring joy to their lives.
Another site which isn’t bias against it reported the same thing with their own sources

Are you sure? The sites that I've seen circulate this rumor have all cited Collider's report.

It’s still obviously rumour, but I trust them more then Collider

https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/201...y-thats-actually-great-for-the-franchise.html

That site doesn't say that they've independently confirmed this with their own sources; it says that its staff agrees with Collider's report without saying why or how.
