Disney/LFL to slow down Star Wars releases

Nope.

You're looking for tonal freedom and variety in the wrong place if you expect Star Wars to be like the MCU.

Star Wars is, has always been, and always will be a Children's Myth-based Space Fantasy done in the style of a 1940s Film Serial. That is never going to change... not because of "familiarity", but because doing so would cause the franchise to cease being itself.
You couldn’t be more wrong about everything.

Boy, it’s funny how different some sites can be about certain things. :)

What? People’s opinions about TLJ? One man’s trash is another’s treasure. If we all agreed on what we enjoyed, life would be pretty boring, don’t you think?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of The Last Jedi myself. But not for the "ick, it's a girl" reasons that you see all around the internet. While I loved the stuff with Luke, Rey and Kylo, my issues were mainly (but not entirely) with Poe Dameron. He seems like a likeable and capable fellow in the previous movie, but in this one he was an insubordinate moron who got the entire Resistance killed.

I just don't think that the The Last Jedi had anything to do with Solo underperforming.

I get that. I myself love BvS but the majority here seem to defend it. That hasn’t been the case anywhere else.

I see it as a logical progression of the character. Poe means well in TLJ. But he takes it too far. He thinks because he's been told he's the hero, and has been raised and trained by heroes. Heroes can do no wrong. Poe did wrong. Poe fucked up. ROYALLY. I haven't read it yet (waiting for the collected hardcover) but apparently the comic makes the conflict between Poe and Holdo a little more clear. (And yes, I get that people don't like having to read to get the whole story. Just pointing out.) But honestly, the complaints about Poe are probably those that make the most sense to me.

I just don't think that the The Last Jedi had anything to do with Solo underperforming.

Well, I don't know if its fair to say it didn't have ANYTHING to do with Solo underperforming. I do think that there are those (a few thousand or so pissed off fans) who helped Solo not reach its potential. I just tend to believe that there are a myriad of other reasons why it didn't do as well as it could have. Which is disappointing. It is far from perfect movie, but it was a lot of fun.

How is any of what I said inaccurate?

Lucas repeatedly said that Star Wars is for children, and even without him, Lucasfilm has maintained that assertion.

It's also common knowledge that Lucas was heavily influenced by 1940s Film Serials and the myth-based writings of Joseph Campbell.

If you take any of that stuff away by trying to give a Star Wars film a "varied" tone, you lose everything that makes Star Wars "Star Wars".

They really should have just postponed Solo until December when they had the whole covfefe last year with Lord and Miller being dismissed and Ron Howard being brought on to do reshoots.
You demonstrate by your comment that you don't actually understand what the "Star Wars aesthetic" is, or what makes the franchise unique.
And you demonstrate by yours that you're more interested in limiting the franchise to what it should be rather than embracing what it could be.

I think the larger issue is that this is a franchise were the audience has been told "the heroes can do no wrong" and yet they do wrong, all the time. It started in the PT and has continued forward in to TLJ specifically, but the Clone Wars and Rogue One.

I get some of the complaints for certain against Poe, but looking at it as objectively as I can (I know I'm biased) Poe suffered from hubris and it bit him. Audiences who grow up with Luke, and Han and Leia winning or nearly winning, are not going to like it.

Solo coming out so soon after TLJ was part of it. It would feel better to have come out in December, for one year between films.

Otherwise things seem to be moving along at a reasonable pace. The cartoons are moving along. Other media is moving. I still really want another space flight sim game along the lines of X-wing and TIE Fighter series of games.

Its a big galaxy. After the Skywalker story goes its course in Episode IX, where to? We have not only a massive galaxy, but also many time periods to explore full of story potential. Also stories can be told in different ways. They had plans for a darker, sort of who did it underworld vibe game in Level 1313, which would probably be the route they would take any Boba Fett story, to counterpoint the lighter Han Solo story. People really want to see Ewan McGreggor back as Obi-wan Kenobi, so that's a possibility. But you also have all this backstory of the Sith Empire and the wars and superweapons of the times before the 1,000 years of peace prior to the Clone Wars. All those old ruins the Jedi keep finding were from back then, and all had powerful items that seem advanced even for the Galactic Empire. Some would even inspire the Death Star and later Starkiller Base. There are lots of old legends that we get glimpses of in Rebels and the Clone Wars that could be used to prop up the foundation of a story or six.

Well, this sucks. I know Solo wasn't good, but there is so much potential. we have no real TV shows (with the upcoming cartoon being made for the youngest demographic yet, its basically a Disney jr cartoon) and barely any (non-Childrens) books nowadays, we're getting starved for real Star Wars content. A couple of mediocre comics (with occasional good ones sprinkled in) and a decent novel for people over the age of 12 about once every 2-3 years is pathetic. Either let authors do things in the periods of time Disney is ignoring, or make more movies, not less.

J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven't been specific about. And we are just at the point where we're going to start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.'s.
It's very telling that he does not mention the previously mentioned Rian Johnson trilogy at all. Or am I being too optimistic? ;)

I still hope they consider another Solo film. I was very interested in how that movie ended, and I still think it was probably my favorite or second favorite film of the summer.

Another "young Solo" film would be okay, but a "young Lando" story would be my preference based on Donald Glover's performance in Solo.

I think a slow down is a good thing. I've long felt that Disney-Lucasfilm's plan to do a Star Wars film every year would exhaust both fans and content creators. And I think that's starting to happen. It doesn't help either that The Last Jedi turned into a divisive film that seemed to get more headlines due to that than it's amazing box office. The lackluster Solo box office have just added to the perception that something is off at Lucasfilm so Iger slowing things down is a good thing, it allows them everyone to take a breath IMO. Hopefully it will allow for some longer-term planning on the part of the creators as well.
