Discovery Size Argument™ thread

-Sorry about the Sovereign. I didn't even think of it.

-As for the detail on the Discovery, there is no "full frontal" of it anywhere. I tried to find a perfect screenshot from the show but it didn't work, so I took it from a fan model on Youtube that wasn't quite accurate, and added a few lights that were on the real thing.

-Forgetting the Sovereign was a sin, but removing the Constitution(s) would make me a blasphemer.
Eaglemoss posted front views of their prototype's CG awhile ago, but I havent found actual pics of the Discovery model itself from the front.

We've seen the Defiant on screen right next to the NX-01, and the NX's size is pretty definitive. I don't think they can do much with the Constitution. In fact, there's no reason for us to even see it now. At least, not this season.
We saw a D7 battlecruiser and Klingons in other Treks before, and it didn't stop them from swapping them out with something very different.

Although I agree we likely won't see the Defiant. They know that's a dead end and need to find out how Lorca crossed over in order to get home.

They'll steal a few spores from MU Stamets' ship, I'm sure. I doubt we'll ever see a "constitution" class ship but if we do, it certainly won't be this season

I mean, look at this thing. What is even going on here? Why is it carrying a miniature star? Some sort of fusion power plant? So that the Emperor can get a natural tan?

Presumably the "star" is a magnetically-, or whatever technobabble field-, contained source that powers the ship. Interesting that this harkens quite strongly to the TNG Romulan warbird design, suggesting that the Empire co-opted their research upon conquering them. The only problem is this design is from the future (but nothing to say they weren't in the early stages of researching it).

A second thought: in TNG, we're told that an incident kept the Romulans "busy" for decades. Perhaps they were waging war against a species that used this tech, and the Empire has already conquered them?

I really do like the design and scale of Discovery, it just seems more realistic to me and I am hyped to see what they do with the Constitution class.

I like the design, but I'm not sure I agree with the scale/size. It seems like an awfully lot of real estate for a crew of 134. I guess if maybe the Crossfield class was intended as a long range explorer that would not see Federation space for months at a time along with a larger crew, the size would make more sense. That's just my opinion though.

Based on the closeups we’ve seen of the palace part, I reckon the ISS Charon’s size is in excess of 1km. Would be interesting to see it alongside a Vengeance-class dreadnought or Universe-class cruiser, once we’ve learned more about it.

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it, that it looked surprisingly like a Romulan Warbird and they seem to use an artificial singularity as a power source.

The Eaglemoss Discovery ship scale really place it in Kelvin timeline.
I finally got around to watching the Trekyards episode and honestly, I agree with them, the Scaling makes no sense, you could fit legitimately like, 100 shuttles in the Shenzhou's shuttlebay at this size. I knew the Eaglemoss scaling was wrong the second I saw those shuttlebay doors.
Canon onscreen also doesn't match these figures, the bridge module is way to big at the size Eaglemoss is reporting.
I don't get why they keep wanting these ships so huge. Do they not realise how big the Connie? It's larger than an aircraft carrier or Cruise liner. Aircraft carriers hold thousands of people while the Enterprise holds 500.

The Galaxy class makes sense when you look at the original idea behind it (essentially a flying city with a population in the tens of thousands). But there is no reason for the Shenzhou or even Discovery to be that big. Hell from the TV show, I get the impression that there are like, 10 people aboard the Discovery because every area is so deserted.

The promo for episode 13 (spoilers!) shows the Discovery approaching the Charon. At least we know now that the Charon is not a Dyson-sized artifact. It appears somewhat bigger than the Sarcophagus.
