Discovery Size Argument™ thread

Huh, I just realized there's no Sovereign class in that graphic. I mean, if it's TV only, that'd be cool except then of course there's the Connie Refit, which is also movie-exclusive.

There is a shot of the Discovery flying near the Charon in the preview for the next episode. You can also see the shuttle bay and a shuttle in the last episode. Those could help with scaling.

Here is STO's Crossfield next to their Connie. The Ship design lead says they scaled the Discovery to 750.5 meters like Eaglemoss says.

It's a beautiful model, they even modelled in a tiny very very low poly bridge into the dome.

Ya know, those designs flow nicely, if you remove the two connies. They are the oddballs of that line up.

You keep repeating that in every thread. That doesn't make it any more true (it isn't). At this point I'm seriously wondering if it's just a desperate cry for attention?

Wanna' know who's really the oddball in there?
The Defiant. And the Discovery. And the Voyager. You know, those ships not named 'Enterprise'. Because those show a pretty straight forward line of development.

Ugh, the Defiant. It really is ugly. Voyager is a great and sleek design.

I keep repeating it s its true. You can not look at that and honestly say those two do not stick out ( Not for long as we are gonna get a redesign) Just look t how skinny and bare they re net to the others. I do agree the defiant is an oddball as well, but it does flow better.

Also, the Excelsior was also a non-enterprise design. It later got one, but did not start out that way.

You take that back.
No way.
Have you seen the side view? Sleek and sexy from the side, it is not

Better than the Defiant. I still like the Saucer section far better than the Galaxy, Ambassador or even the Discovery.

Respectfully, yes people can say that. I say that. I think they flow just fine from Constitution, to Excelsior, and Ambassador. It may be true to you, but not everyone will see it that way.

This may have been asked before, but since Discovery is a prototype shouldn't she have an "NX" designation and not "NCC"? Burnham, who's a seasoned Starfleet officer, seemed completely unfamiliar with the ship in Ep 3.

I will simply never understand that. Really, I will not. I would like to see this redone when we get the redesign. Heck this would be nice to do many of the hulls we have in. That would be fantastic.

Mister Data, could this be a Dyson cylinder?

Kind a small scale version yeah.

Its not really a prototype. It and the Glenn were simply refitted to carry out an experiment.

-Sorry about the Sovereign. I didn't even think of it.

-As for the detail on the Discovery, there is no "full frontal" of it anywhere. I tried to find a perfect screenshot from the show but it didn't work, so I took it from a fan model on Youtube that wasn't quite accurate, and added a few lights that were on the real thing.

-Forgetting the Sovereign was a sin, but removing the Constitution(s) would make me a blasphemer.

Discovery herself isn't a prototype. Just the spore drive.

Thanks for your responses... Memory Alpha stated that Discovery (and Glenn) were built from the ground up as a test beds for the spore drive so I took that to mean that the ship itself was a prototype. I guess it's simply a new hull/frame built from specs on a existing class already in use throughout Starfleet.

Discovery looks super hideous from this angle. I never want to hear about 'simplistic shapes' of original Connie after this comparison pic. That unseemly stack of boxes called 'Discovery', there is some 'simplistic shapes' for you.
Personally, I'd rather see the Shenzhou or the Gagarin next to the Discovery. But, yeah, it sticks out, in more ways than one.
