Why would it need to be that large?

Well, Kirk did like to bragOr maybe they will just ignore that whole "Only 12 like her" line. I mean it would not be the first, 2nd or 34th time TOS got retconned.

I think that can be arranged. But will it have an Olympic sized pool?
Eaglemoss posted front views of their prototype's CG awhile ago, but I havent found actual pics of the Discovery model itself from the front.-Sorry about the Sovereign. I didn't even think of it.
-As for the detail on the Discovery, there is no "full frontal" of it anywhere. I tried to find a perfect screenshot from the show but it didn't work, so I took it from a fan model on Youtube that wasn't quite accurate, and added a few lights that were on the real thing.
-Forgetting the Sovereign was a sin, but removing the Constitution(s) would make me a blasphemer.
We saw a D7 battlecruiser and Klingons in other Treks before, and it didn't stop them from swapping them out with something very different. We've seen the Defiant on screen right next to the NX-01, and the NX's size is pretty definitive. I don't think they can do much with the Constitution. In fact, there's no reason for us to even see it now. At least, not this season.
I mean, look at this thing. What is even going on here? Why is it carrying a miniature star? Some sort of fusion power plant? So that the Emperor can get a natural tan?

I really do like the design and scale of Discovery, it just seems more realistic to me and I am hyped to see what they do with the Constitution class.![]()
McCoy: She's a big ship.
Scotty: Not as big as her captain.

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it, that it looked surprisingly like a Romulan Warbird and they seem to use an artificial singularity as a power source.Presumably the "star" is a magnetically-, or whatever technobabble field-, contained source that powers the ship. Interesting that this harkens quite strongly to the TNG Romulan warbird design, suggesting that the Empire co-opted their research upon conquering them. The only problem is this design is from the future (but nothing to say they weren't in the early stages of researching it).
A second thought: in TNG, we're told that an incident kept the Romulans "busy" for decades. Perhaps they were waging war against a species that used this tech, and the Empire has already conquered them?
The Eaglemoss Discovery ship scale really place it in Kelvin timeline.
