Discovery Size Argument™ thread

Discovery looks super hideous from this angle. I never want to hear about 'simplistic shapes' of original Connie after this comparison pic. That unseemly stack of boxes called 'Discovery', there is some 'simplistic shapes' for you.

Yeah, no. The TOS connie is far more simplistic. Although few ships look good from all angels. And the Crossfeild really does not from this one at all. Its like the Galaxy or the Intrepid, some angels they just look "ugh"

Personally, I'd rather see the Shenzhou or the Gagarin next to the Discovery. But, yeah, it sticks out, in more ways than one.

I do hope we will get a few more images of the other ships. There should be a front view of the Shenzhou around. You would have to size match.

A bit more on topic, what size do you think they will make the connie redesigns? I do not see them keeping the old size.

The best pics of Discovery and Shenzhou only feature the top, side, and rear, which is a shame, because the Shenzhou has that cool purple dish thingy in front.

If they scale up the Connie, I'll guess they make it as big as the Shenzhou or possibly the Kelvin.

I think they have to, I mean the scale has never really been right anyhow. Bump her up a bit in size, she is still gonna be shorter than the Crossfeild, I think as it will likely be more compact. The Crossfeild is long, but it does not have s much space as the raw size suggests.

Sadly, I think this is just gonna take time for the fans to start making stuff.

Yeah I don't have a problem with making it bigger and I wouldn't mind the Crossfield being bigger than it either. It's Excelsior-esque to me anyway. Looking forward to seeing it in action eventually.

I am fine with the current size, But really total space is likely smaller than some other "smaller" ships. I kind dig the hard angels as they re unlike what we normally see. I also like the many types of nacell designs we are seeing. Over all, I want to see more of the ship designs we have seen and would love to have enough images to make a larger version of the image done here.

True, I suppose that's why they kept the Connie windowless for the most part in it's design. I'm not the biggest fan of the harder angles. I don't think they work too well on saucer based ships. Though they do work well with the Gagarin's Nacelle supports. I like the nacelle's on that ship too. Discovery's are a bit hit and miss but we haven't seen enough of it from all angles. My biggest wish is to see a retrofitted Miranda class.

I rather leave that to later era's. I do wonder how they would redesign it or at lest how they would retexture it. We have seen ships with single hulls, so it does make you wonder just how old that class really is.

I'd guess around 400-500 meters for the Constitution.

That would work, I was thinking 500 to 600 myself. I think they will keep it bit more compact, like the other ships we saw.

For the Connie, I could see it's texture being similar to the Gagarin. Maybe a lighter shade of grey for the hull and black lettering over white. As for the rest of it, That's up in the air. I wouldn't mind if it was textured similarly to the Kelvin. Hopefully we'll learn more from these ship classes down the road.

I do not think they will go Kelvin. After all, keep in mind the Connie is older than the Crossfeild, but looks to be newer than the many of those fleet ships. I would guess on style the Shepard is the newest of that lot. However, we have seen a few colors and patterns, so white can not be ruled out.

We've seen the Defiant on screen right next to the NX-01, and the NX's size is pretty definitive. I don't think they can do much with the Constitution. In fact, there's no reason for us to even see it now. At least, not this season.

True that's why I'm suggesting it though. The Kelvin's textures have a cross between TOS but older looking. But we won't truly know until it's revealed. Just my guess. I wouldn't recommend white font because aside from the Gagarin, you can't see the white text of the Discovery too well and it practically blends into the Eaglemoss models. Not enough contrast really. But well find out soon.

I honestly wonder if the Connies were another test bed for longer range explorer/crusier ship, with the duotronic computer systems also being tested.

True, so far we have seen no older double hull ships and if there were really only 12 built, seems like a very small run. Then again, ll we know is there re just 12 by TOS, so who knows how many their could have been, but a testbed class with a limited number could fit. They may have been just too costly or budget issues could have closed new ships down for smaller, cheaper ships.

Possibly.
