Spoilers Discovery Season 2 Featurette 'Becoming Pike'

I don't see anything to indicate that, but it makes sense.
I think 'mattman' might be referring to the graphic that lists the ships he has commanded also includes a line item that says:

[something something something]
Captain Robert April

He might be speculating that the "something" written there might be a reference to him being April's First Officer.

Hunter played Pike like a wooden, 1960s generic sci-fi bot (i.e. someone who can't be a relatable "human" because it's "the future"). Probably had some bad directing in there too.

Or maybe it was just because the fight on Rigel VII, which caused several casualties among Pike's crew, was still fresh in his memory and he was depressed because of it. Once that stops festering within him, he can relax and become the Pike we're seeing now.

It's sad seeing what Jeffrey Hunter was like during his last performance before his fall and death. This was in 1969, during TOS S3.

Makes me wonder if he'd still be alive today if he stayed on Star Trek as Captain Pike. The character definitely had untapped potential.

The tone of that clip was better then anything we got in Season 1. My optimism is growing. I just hope despite the trailers that came after, this season follows through on the tone and personality of the first comic con trailer. It will really help this show in the long run.

Unfortunately, his wife at the time talked him into not accepting the role.
She felt that doing a recurring TV role would ruin his chances at making more Films.
(which was a widely held belief at the time)

Why would his bio contain his medical history? Also the top right of the wide shot says 'Classified'.

The graphic artists for Star Trek Into Darkness did the same thing, an info box for Qo'nos was lifted right from the Star Trek Online wiki.
The video mentioned that Pike is going onto Discovery knowing what the crew went through with Lorca. It could be an attempt at transparency and get the crew to trust him by showing that he trusts them with such information. The other trailers has him giving lines about how Starfleet is about protecting and trusting each other. They've been through a lot and he understands that they are well within their rights to not trust him, but he wants them to trust him and this is how he does it.

I'm expecting Anson Mount's Pike to channel Bruce Greenwood's more than Jeffrey Hunter. Although they didn't use footage of ST'09 and Greenwood in that trailer (they'd probably have to pay Paramount), the silver hair, the Dad-like demeanor and "Hit it!" have me expecting it.

Hunter had some silver in his hair

I'm liking this Pike more and more, a definite progression of that character we saw for one episode at the very beginning of Star Trek (ie, plenty of room to move on character development!)

Like others have said, if this is where we had've started the series - it would've been even better.

Oh, I dunno about that. I want Pike gone by Season Three. I want something utterly new there. Because I want my DSC dynamic like that. We got Pike solely because DSC changed. We'll miss out on many a good thing if it doesn't change again.

I dunno. I will be really disappointed if Discovery has yet another wild pivot - and yet another galaxy-threatening serialized plot. It would be like if Enterprise used some version of the Xindi plot three times in a row. Basically, it establishes Discovery as an episodic show, only the "episodes" each last a season. Why is that inherently better than doing a bunch of mini-arcs and a few standalones?
