News Discovery Season 2 Extended to 14 episodes (originally 13)

I have a feeling that there will be no Pike series. Kurtzman has been pretty clear about how the CBS strategy for Trek dictates that any new series would need to be substantially different from what already exists. A Pike series, at least the one we'd want to see, would basically be another "adventures aboard a ship " show, so that probably won't fly.
I agree it would be a waste to have 2 similar shows, but it's always possible a Pike/Enterprise series could have a unique identity. Perhaps, while Discovery is having season-long arc adventures centred on Michael Burnham, the Enterprise is going on Planet of the Week™ adventures, TOS/TNG/VOY/EarlyENT/The Orville style. Or maybe they'll go on a season-long arc that can only be told with the characters of Pike and Spock.

A Pike/Spock/Enterprise show sounds a LOT more appealing than Emperor Georgiou/Section 31. But then, so does Captain Worf.

Thanks. If they go this route, you just cured me of wanting to see a Pike Series. If they can make it like the Shorts, then fine. If it's like what you just described: Pass.

This, on the other hand, I'd like to see.

I tend to agree with you. A Pike series is redundant unless they either cancel Discovery entirely, or decide to do something weird like a time skip at the end of the second season.

That said, they've already cast who would presumably be the three core cast members for a Pike series. And they've built the Enterprise bridge. Hence it would be relatively cheap/easy for a Pike series to hit the ground running. And tempting if Mount ends up the breakout star of this season.

Certainly could be. I personally would not be interested in Planet of the Week™ adventures from Star Trek at this point though. It's been done thoroughly, and in a virtually unsurpassable manner (see TOS and TNG) already.

As much as I absolutely ADORE Michelle Yeoh, I tend to agree.

Or the Pike show could just be optimistic and fun.

You could say this about any iteration of Trek they produce, inclusive of the new season of DSC. So......

I doubt they would do a Pike series. But maybe a Pike mini-series, though season 2 of Discovery is kind of like that.

Twelve more episodes would also mean that we'd get twelve more instances of Burnham Is Always Right™.
Be careful what you wish for.
Oh, how I wish they would've gone the Shenzou route (a series based on the pilot) or sticked with a multi-layered, mysterious Cpt. Lorca!

I was looking at the IMDB page for Discovery, and spotted this....

Is this a newer version than "regular old" Ariam?

At least optimistic. If "fun" means nothing but dumb joke after dumb joke, as "The Trouble With Tribbles", "I, Mudd", and "The Great Vegetable Rebellion" are all templates for ideal Trek...

I must watch this infamous episode of Lost In Space. Knowing nothing else about it except for the title, it sounds like: "Vegetables stand up for their rights!!!" But probably not.

Optimistic and fun can work, though. The Voyage Home is my second favorite Star Trek movie to The Wrath of Khan. It can be done if done right. "Runaway" shows how Disco could pull it off.

That episode is right up in terms of 'unwatchability' as "The Star Wars Holiday Special" - and no, I don't consider that statement hyperbole.

So, to put it in Star Trek terms: are we talking "so bad it's good" like "Spock's Brain"... or "so bad it's bad" like "And the Children Shall Lead"? If it's a "Spock's Brain" type of bad, I still want to see it. If it's an "And the Children Shall Lead" bad, forget it.

IMO - It's just plain BAD!

They have Johnathan Harris "Dr. Smith", in bad green pancake makeup as a living stick of celery:

And here's the main 'evil' vegetable (remarkable costuming here) :

It's said when Johnathan Harris looked at the script, he approached the writer to say: "Really, this is what we're filming?"
And the writer (Peter Packer) replied: "Sorry, I just don't have any ideas left in my head."
