Agreed. The Klingons in TOS and TUC felt like aliens I could take seriously, aliens that could build a warp drive, go to space and be a real threat to the Federation. The Klingons in TNG do not. Neither do the Uruk-Hai in STID.

The Klingons in TUC were caricatures. A Lincoln lookalike and a guy who can't say an entire sentence without it being a Shakespeare quote.

I say completely mix it up. Not just flat and bumpy, but have many levels of forehead bumpiness. Have some that are as flat as the TOS Klingons, some that resemble what we saw in STID, and some in between like in the original timeline TOS movies. Give the Klingons some diversity.
^^ agreed a continuum of bumpiness, suggesting intermariage between unaffected Imperials and augmented fusions it's a logical evolution of the concepts in play and should have been the policy all along
Showing both would be good. I always thought the way ENT explained it was decent. Plus the tie in to Data then after his experiments with the Augments made for a good story I thought. Showing both then would be good, or they could at least tell about the two kinds to give a little more weight to Enterprise.
I think as many others have already set, a blended mix of the two would be the best approach. You wouldn't necessarily be trampling over continuity, and at the same time you have plenty of creative freedom to work with.
I mean, why not have klingon factions never infected with the disease who feel like they are the true sons of kahless or something, and all other klingons are weak and need to be eradicated. like tribbles. Then you have both the smooth and bumpy variety essentially having cake and eating it too.

That's a good idea. The only thing about that idea is the augments were superior to the regular Kllingons. The way the episode handled it was the traits would disapear over time. That sort of fit the storyline and the original series too, I guess.
I vote half-flat, half-ridged because of TOS, and the fact that this is supposed to be before the originals, but after ENT. It would show that not all Klingons were affected by the virus.
I don't get why they chose the time period that they did. They could have held the show in the post Voyager era. We all just have to wait and see. I only hope they don't get stupid like the first season of TNG, hating the U.S. in an umber of episodes. The first season really sucked in my opinion.
