It would seem that some people who simply want the show to fail have become so divorced from reality on the subject that it's amazing there isn't some level of alimony involved.

"I hope it fails, because when it does, they'll make the show I really want to see!!!!! And it's all about MEEEEE!!!"

One misconception about how things work compounded by another.

Lukewarm reception? Nope. Indications of reduced budget? Nope (and don't / wouldn't care)

Someone talking out their rectal oriface? Yuuuuuup.

Lukewarm. The critics praise the show. But it's obvious that was going to happen. CBS pushed the "diversity" angle so hard that the virtue signalling from among the gaggle of professional critics disabled their objectivity. Going by Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic the audience reaction to DSC is very much only lukewarm.

It was my least favourite episode of the series so far... it wasn't bad but they could definitely have chosen a better one! Maybe it is because of the guest star?

That is 100% right. Whatever budget it will be, it will be indicative of how successful DIS really is. Until then, everything is just speculation.

I'm not sure about that though - while it's certainly not the flagship show CBS hoped it to be - entering popculture the same way GoT or Stranger Things recently did - it's absolutely possible the show is a big financial success. We just don't know how that whole All Access-thingy is working out, that is the thing where the money comes from.

"Being realistic about something" is NOT "wanting to see it fail". I want DIS to become better. That's a personal opinion. But the FACTS are: We just don't know how successfull DIS is. And we won't know for a long time - that is, until we know the budget for S2. And even then we will only have hints to base our estimations upon. The only thing we know for sure right now is: It's neither getting cancelled, nor has it entered pop-culture hype with mainstream audiences. It really could be anywhere in between those two.

    Oh, just shut it.:shifty:

Who knows what their criteria was. I do agree it's the most appealing to a large audience, but as I said in my original post, it's not my favorite. I did enjoy it, though!

Which is why it's in the top 5 on Netflix?

These goal posts are very confusing.

We certainly are living in the age of 'create your own reality'.

I'm going to assume that this tortured sentence means that you think the show would be better off with more straight white male actors in place of women and minorities and fewer, or no, gay characters. I think it's the opposite. Part of the reason for the show's successful debut has been the presence of minorities, women, caucasians, handicapped, and gay characters.

BTW, the hate watchers, including those on on Rotten Tomatos and MEtacritic, are counted as subscriptions and therefore "ratings", just like normal fans.

    It's not in Netflix's top 5.

You assume those people watch the show on CBS's streaming service or Netflix instead of through other means, that amuses me.

Disco would be better off with better writing.
