Discovery: Drastic Measures pre-release thread

Sure, but having a really cool ship on the cover that appears once in chapter 1 and then again the the epilogue and has near to no bearing on the story other than bringing the main characters to the location seems kinds scummy.
Well to be fair, it's not as though Pocket is above such a method. *cough cough* The Body Electric *cough cough*

Of course I don't know how important any ship in the story is. Anyway, I prefer faces on cover, although both can be done better or worse.
True but it’s just a cover. I just find using stock photos from the show and photoshoping them for the cover to look rather cheap.
If I was to do it, I would have a picture of the ship they use in warp, a picture of Kudos, Young Kirk and Lorca.

I imagine there are multiple factors leading to Desperate Hours and Drastic Measures having covers that look more like newspaper ads for the show than exciting Keith Birdsong paintings. More secrecy for an unreleased show, fewer assets available for artists to use (reference photos and CG), and/or a greater desire from marketing to remain "on brand" are just a few reasons I can think of off the top of my head.

As David cgc indicates, there is a method to the madness, so to speak, with respect to the book covers and overall brand messaging.

Me? I’m just a hired gun, and I shoot where I’m aimed.

Also, I was a tad inaccurate in my previous post. The Shenzhou is present, albeit very briefly. For the bulk of the story, another ship is featured, and I made sure to describe it as the Starfleet equivalent of “fugly.” :)

Dayton,a new Class of ship or one we have seen before?

The first covers for a lot of tie-in series are just reused promo photos or posters, so the covers of the Discovery books are pretty much what I expected.

Even if such a policy were in place, it wouldn't have mattered in this case. The cover art direction for the DSC books is coming directly from CBS.

They’ve been used on rare occasions, such as introducing Vanguard station and (I think?) the Titan, but those were centerpieces of ongoing series. It’s very unlikely that the ship used in Drastic Measures will ever be “seen” again.....unless I write another story that needs such a vessel. :)

The Titan one was in the fourth(?) novel following a reader competition launched in the first one.

Yes it was. Given how long ago that happened, I'm sure many people here either had forgotten or plain didn't know.
