Discovery at STLV. The massive info dump

And Star Trek isn't the only series that views it that way. Other movie/TV series have tie-in novels, but are not viewed as part of the actual canon.

As for all that effort into creating a novel that isn't treated as part of the universe, you'll have to go quite a ways back to the 1960's or so for that. Lots of TV shows had tie-in novels that were not treated as part of the TV continuity.
According to this site, as of this month there are 2,291 Star Trek books and comics, none of which are canon so it's a bit late to be worrying about this.

I never read the script. I have it, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Summed up: Garth is THE Marty Stu character to end all Marty Stu characters. The only real internal conflict he has during this whole incident is how quickly can he trick and destroy the Klingon attack force. At the end (even though the Klingons at the start state how tthey are so close to victory, the conquering/subjugation of Earth is just around the corner - after they lose at Axanar, it's "Okay, the war is over, we'll go home now..."

It sounds like the writing for Axanar was terrible, and I won't bother reading it. I did really like the look they were going for though, and I enjoyed Prelude to Axanar. Of course, at the time I watched it, I thought the Prime Timeline was never coming back. Now it's back (more or less).

Lots of hate for Axanar here, but everything that was delivered in Prelude to Axanar - the look, design, acting, and script were great - so I'm having a hard time understanding what the source of the hate is.

$1.4 million raised from Trekkies on the promise of a movie, the money instead goes on Alec Peters' and his friends' expenses and salaries and launching a film studio which immediately tanks.

Some might say that the look, design, acting, and scripts were great. For me, Prelude to Axanar looked very much style over substance and took themselves so seriously that it made it look silly.

They raised 1.4 million and instead of making a movie started a for profit studio and got sued. All 1.4 million is gone with no movie and they don't even have the studio anymore.

If you want details check axamonitor.com.

Apart from the money issue, the thinking on Peters' part that he could appropriate the name Star Trek and think that he could release movies under that name without any kind of permission or thought to copyright was beyond stupid.
