Discovery at STLV. The massive info dump

I thought when they don't release it to the critics it's because they know it's not going to get favorable reviews.
I'm hoping for the best:beer: but bracing for the worst. :wah:
With movies sure, with a new show on a pay per view platform I think they'd be more worried about screeners popping up on torrent sites, like happened with the first 4 or 5 episodes of GoT last year.

Good point. I don't remember early reviews on the other shows, but that was pre-internet when I got my news from Starlog and TV Guide.

do we have to shuttle-share traveling to and from these group viewings too?
CBS All Access seems like a scam at first, but this is CBS's future once the cord-cutters outnumber the cable subscribers. The other networks limit their streaming model to free rerun content but they'll soon need to convert them to pay subscriber too.

I've had All Access since it launched. It's a good platform and I gave up cable 4 years ago. Have CBSAA, HBO Now, and Netflix. About 30 a month.
I've tried explaining this to people. They don't listen.

Also someone on FB today complained he couldn't afford DSC because Roku cost $99 and would have to wait to see it. Two of us informed him you can get the app free on windows store in Win10 and after the free pilot on CBS, could subscribe for a free week, then $5.99.

Also Roku Express costs $25 on groupon. Or $30 on best Buy.

People just love to complain, about everything.

At this point the goal posts are in the delta quadrant...

No two shows are exactly comparable but for the purposes of the point I was making (that I felt they could have screened the first episode at the convention) they are perfectly reasonable comparisons. All I was trying to say was that it is fairly common for genre shows to do those kinds of early screenings, that it seems to be a popular marketing tactic.

Besides, the real reason for my post was to ask when we think it will screen for critics and I haven't seen one response.

Sorry, my crystal ball is in the shop.

Please read through the entire discussion. Yes there is a risk of spoilers but many studios feel it's a calculated risk and that the screening helps build positive buzz and awareness.

Still nobody answering the question and stuck on the inane part. I get it, they chose not to do it, probably for a variety of reason... smdh

Why are you so hung up on this? Who cares? And even if the episode gets released, critics have embargos. The show's obviously not done yet so I'm guessing it won't be ready for show for another month. Unless they crammed the music in and we're going to get "here's the first 5 minutes" which studios do sometimes.

so They said the books will not be canon, which sucks cause why put all that effort into creating a novel if it's not going to be canon in the Discovery universe?
Books have either been not canon or soft canon for the run of the Star Trek franchise. Nothing new there. The Studio's position has always been "only what's on the screen is canon."

And Star Trek isn't the only series that views it that way. Other movie/TV series have tie-in novels, but are not viewed as part of the actual canon.

As for all that effort into creating a novel that isn't treated as part of the universe, you'll have to go quite a ways back to the 1960's or so for that. Lots of TV shows had tie-in novels that were not treated as part of the TV continuity.

The only series recently that I can think of that has made any books canon is Star Wars that stated the new marvel comics were going to be canon but since those were through marvel it's basically an inhouse production so is a little different then something like pocket books.

This protest group is about the fan film guidelines and encouraging people to watch discovery in groups so cbs doesn't get as much money so they'll change the guidelines. Lol.

However it's turned into bash everything discovery related. Pretty sad really.
But surely not surprising.

I run into an Axanar fan once in a while. They still can't understand why people are upset that $1.4M were taken from fans with nothing to show for it. So naturally, they want DSC to fail.
It really boggles the mind, that the very people who OWN Star Trek can't put out a new series without them wanting it to fail, but someone who infringed on the copyright is being revered.
