Discovery at STLV. The massive info dump

Define "big". Arrow, in Oct. 2016, was ranked #83 in Nielsens. Supergirl was #69, The Flash was #65. To put it in perspective, a rerun of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" that same week ranked #16.

None of those shows have a subscription based service riding on them.............

News on ships:
During the Discovery novel panel David Mack said he originally named one ship in his novel Gagarin but had to change it to Tereshkova because Kirsten Beyer used Gagarin for the show.

No word on if it's just a mention or we'll actually see her like Discovery/Shenzou/Europa.

Overall, all the five ship names relate to the Sol system and Human spacefaring. :bolian:

Notice they are both in the top 100 and while rating may be down, arrow got two more seasons than TOS. The other poster is correct, you do keep goalpost shifting.

It is nice that ship names reflect different nations and cultures on Earth, a marked improvement from Star Trek: Enterprise. However, as I mentioned on another thread, I would like to see some more alien influences in design, naming and even procedures. With its big budget and scope Discovery really has a chance to show UFP's size and diversity.

At this point the goal posts are in the delta quadrant...

No two shows are exactly comparable but for the purposes of the point I was making (that I felt they could have screened the first episode at the convention) they are perfectly reasonable comparisons. All I was trying to say was that it is fairly common for genre shows to do those kinds of early screenings, that it seems to be a popular marketing tactic.

Besides, the real reason for my post was to ask when we think it will screen for critics and I haven't seen one response.

I'm not familiar with the American system but does it have to be screened to some Ivory Tower lads first before it hits the screen for us plebs? Wouldn't there be a risk of spoilers?

Please read through the entire discussion. Yes there is a risk of spoilers but many studios feel it's a calculated risk and that the screening helps build positive buzz and awareness.

Still nobody answering the question and stuck on the inane part. I get it, they chose not to do it, probably for a variety of reason... smdh

I would guess 10 days to 2 weeks prior to September 24th.

Makes sense. The reason I was hoping for a surprise screening was so we could hear some early reactions-- positive, negative, mediocre. Defenders screened at SDCC and released the first four Episodes to critics a month in advance.

Interesting... that seems very "last minute" by today's standards. Understandable sure, but as a fan I'd hoped to hear what critics have to say sooner.

This is an interesting comment because a dsc protest group said something this morning about an announce that could affect the group.
We may have seen the same thing, although I'm hearing rumbles from various places, but nothing I can find "on the record".

I thought when they don't release it to the critics it's because they know it's not going to get favorable reviews.
I'm hoping for the best:beer: but bracing for the worst. :wah:
