Perhaps for safety's sake you should try a helmet. ;)

If only i wasnt a starving student needing that money for other things :p I have considered it though haha

I love XC skiing! I'd definitely do that in place of running, if only I lived someplace that had snow.

I thought I lived someplace that had snow. The last several winters in Minnesota haven't been great for us skiers though. :(

^ Ain't that the truth! Actually, I haven't been skiing since high school, but we did cancel our annual ice fishing trip this year...

Anyway... to get in on the thread...

Between my birthday (end of october), and through the holidays, I lost 20 lbs. I did this primarily through calorie counting. I more or less stayed the same weight until now without a whole lot of effort, but now I'm back on the plan. I've lost 3 lbs in the last week!

I found that it's much easier to reduce your calorie intake through diet, instead of increasing your calorie output through exercise. Probably not the best way to go, but it seems to be working. I do need to start walking again, which has been my primary source of exercise in the past. The problem I have, which I think is pretty common these days, is that my job consists of me sitting on my ass for 8+ hours a day. By the time 6-7 o'clock comes around, I'm so tired, I just cant seem to do anything. I mostly tele-commute, but I started taking the bus on the 1 or 2 days a week that I actually go into the office. It was amazing to me how sore I was after the first day of riding the bus, since I have to transfer half way through the trip. I walked maybe a block, and it's pathetic just how out of shape I'm in.

Well, I'm working on it, anyway. I might have to vent here time to time though...

I have no idea how much weight i've lost. Some hopefully, but at the same time i gained a lot of leg muscle.

I'm definitely throwing my hat back into this ring. Last year I was going to the gym regularly and eating really well, and I felt GREAT. Then I got busier and busier and got free pizza all the time, and it all fell apart. Here I am 20 pounds later, ready to dive back in. Tomorrow is Day 1...and also I think I'll stop buying scotch every weekend, it's probably not helping.

You can do it D Man!!! You just have to be in the right mental place.. If you're not, it won't work...

I spend the last year maintaining a 110 lb. weight loss and it hasn't been easy, but if you do it the right way the first time, it comes off easier down the road..

I just completed my first ever bike race.. I did a half century (50 miles) this past weekend and it was probably one of the hardest things I've ever tried to do... I didn't come in first, but I didn't come in worst, either...

In any case, the emotional boost the accomplishment has given me feels really, really cool...

I'm not doing so good. I haven't been eating very well, and I've unfortunately lost about 10 lbs in the last two weeks. That puts me at about 160, which I think is too low.

Day 1 = Success! Jogged 10 minutes to the gym, barely made it to 20 min on the elliptical while watching TNG "Parallels" :D, then walked back home using the death hill route rather than the flat easy route. Feeling exhausted but good so far. The next step is to cut back linguine intake from 1/2 box per meal to something more reasonable.

D Man...

Be sure, after a workout like that to IMMEDIATELY eat some lean proteins and healthy carbs (fruit, not bread, pasta or potatoes)... What I do is pre-cook some skinless chicken tenders and keep them in the fridge (don't cook too many in advance, obviously) and then have two, followed by an orange... If you drink juice, try to only drink juice that ISN'T from concentrate.. The sugar content in the concentrated stuff is higher.

Ingesting the lean proteins and good carbs will allow your body to continue its workout and, just as importantly, recover from the exercise.. That way you won't be as sore later on..

Oh, and it goes without saying that you need to cut your added salt WAY WAY down.. In fact, I use morton's Lite Salt now at home... Start reading labels at the store and try to buy low sodium items.. If you're a big soup eater, you'll have to start making your own...

Not knowing your weight or body type, I can only guess, but if you were/are like me, you should eat no more than a third of a cup of pasta (cooked) for weight loss purposes.

Way to go, man - Keep it up!!!

Oh I love peanut butter! Unfortunately I'm quite allergic ;)

In any case, it looks like it was just the remnants of a virus, feeling a lot better now. :) Have been eating better since yesterday.
