Did Picardo ever talk about Voyager?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
hey guys, does anyone know if Picardo ever made it clear what his experience on the show was? i know mulgrew said she hated it and wang said he didn't like it either.

Anything I've ever heard from Picardo in print/youtube/in "person" at cons has been universally positive.

As far as Mulgrew running down Voyager? The only thing she's said, which is frequently echoed by the leads of other TV series, is that the days are long and grueling, but that's more a function of "the job", not of "ST:Voyager".

Never heard Kate Mulgrew say she hated working on Voyager - in fact she seems to say just the opposite (yes - long hard days but that goes with most episodic tv shows).

Also, I've only ever heard Robert Picardo say positive things as well.

Robert Beltran, on the other hand, .................

Seriously? :wtf:

Mulgrew has praised the role as 'once in a lifetime' and 'a blessing'. She's said the cast was 'wonderful to work with' and the franchise is 'amazing'. She's said that working on the set of Voyager was 'one of the best experiences of her career'. I could go on.

Never have I ever seen anything to indicate Kate Mulgrew hated the role of Kathryn Janeway or working on the show.

Where in the world do you get your information?

Picardo talks about the show all the time. Slap in a search on YouTube, and you'll come up with a dozen con appearances. He has said mostly positives about working on the show, too.

Beltran, on the other hand, has a lot of negatives to say and not a lot of anything else.

I can only say what the others said. Kate said she "was blessed to play Janeway". She said it was an experience she wouldn't want to miss. With no word has she ever indicated that she hated working on Voyager and I haven't heard Picardo say anything to that effect either.

If Beltran didn't like working on Voyager, why didn't he quit? Chakotay was almost as annoying and off-putting a character as Riker. Voyager would have been even better without him, but I don't know who'd have replaced him...

^Not sure if it's a contract thing, but making that kind of money is a reason not to quit.

Whoever said that Mulgrew disliked playing Janeway must have been smoking something. I've never heard her complain about anything but the long hours that episodic television requires. She loves Janeway, calls her a wonderful character, and has said repeatedly that she would play her again in a heartbeat.

What's your source for this "dislike" comment, ReadyandWilling?

Yes, it's a contract thing. He signed a seven-year contract, and it's up to the producers' discretion if they want the character/actor to stay or not. Sometimes actors are let out of their contract if it helps out all involved, but the final decision is made by the production, not by the actor.

I really wish they'd killed Chakotay or... gasp! Given him a decent script. Maybe then he would have been a bit happier about his job.

It's a measure against having cast members sign up for other projects all over the place, which leads to a rotating door cast, which in terms of most shows is often negatively impacting on both the quality of the series and the all-important ratings.

I wish the producers would have recognized Beltran's disliking of his work and sent Chakotay off one way or the other by the fifth year or so, but oh well.

I've never heard anything about Garrett Wang saying he didn't like his time on the show, either.

I'm still waiting to see where in the hell anyone has every heard that Kate didn't like the show.

She said at the end of season 6 that she might not come back, but that was because she was getting married. It wasn't for hate of the show. A contract renegotiation came up. Thinking on it, her contract ended at the end of season 6.

I bet Beltran's did, too.

I don't know, but I remember at the time hearing that Mulgrew might not have come back after Season 5. Is there any truth to that?

It was after season 5, not 6. That was my mistake. Old age...

That was part of the reason why the had the Equinox end season 6. If Kate hadn't renewed, they'd have killed her off and replaced her with the other Captain.

Yeah, I was just going to say Unimatrix 0 ended season 6. Equinox ended season 5.
