Did Enterprise have to grow on anyone else?

Finished episode 17. They're working hard to bridge the gap between ENT and TOS which I appreciate, with the Suranite's, the Klingon disease, the forging or an alliance between Andoria, Vulcan, whatever the Tellerites planet is, and Earth, but I'm still not feeling it. The shows still boring for the most part - likely because of the lack of any real danger. The characters still aren't interesting and the twists are not earned. Malcolm worked for Section 31 all along? But section 31 not having contacted him for years because there was no danger to Earth? What about the whole Xindi plot line? What about Daniels cabin and future tech, section 31 didn't want any of it? Those wasn't serious enough things to activate their agent? It stinks of retconning, which is too bad because if it had been planned from the start (or at least part way through) they could have done some brilliant stuff with it. There could have been an "omg his actions suddenly make so much more sense" moment - instead we have - "what?" and at the end of the two episode mini arc it's all over and meaningless anyway.

Also, T'Pol and Trip are linked telepathically because they mated? But that was a year ago, why are they only sharing visions now? Shouldn't Trip have shared her addiction/disease symptoms if he's immune to the Orion pheromones because she is? Why would a psychic link cause them to share physical immunities?

Anyway, the mirror episodes are up. I have seen them before, years ago, and remember them being good - especially Hoshi :)

I became a Star Trek fan about halfway through Enterprise's run, though not due to Enterprise but rather through watching TNG. So, for a while I was watching the 3rd and 4th seasons of Enterprise as they aired along with TNG on DVD. Although I like TNG best, I never disliked Enterprise and just saw it as really different from the others. I later went back and watched the whole series starting from season one and felt that the first two seasons were lacking.

However, I am now rewatching the entire series again with someone who hasn't seen it and am pleasantly surprised by how much I like season 2. Season 1 still had a few boring episodes to get through, but the second season is really very entertaining for both of us. There is a lot of character development and some interesting first encounters.

Although I don't quite agree with you on the characters - I find them quite interesting, in fact the Archer's crew is the crew I found I have most affinity for, I agree that some of the story arcs could be explored a bit further, and yes a good example would be Malcolm's connection with Section 31.

I watched the two Mirror episodes last night but found that I didn't like it. Somehow I found the crew's badness unconvincing - I kept thinking they were just pretending, instead of being their bad self.

Archer's crew is not what I have a problem with in that series.

Retconning was standard operating procedure for Trek. Presumably you hate all the other series for the same reason?
When it's badly done like this? Absolutely. When it's more smoothly done, makes sense for the character /plot and effectively used moving forward? No.

I've just started the Mirror episode. So far my review consists of "Hellllllooooooooo Comm Officer:drool::adore::censored:"

Edit: now that's more like it! These two episodes are easily the highlight of the series. I stl found Bakula's performance irritating, I thought his overacting was way out of place (even compared to the intentional evil overacting of the others) until the great reveal that he is out of his mind the entire time. That was well done. I also appreciated seeing past characters from the series in little cameos as Starfleet slave species serving them on the various star ships.

There are a couple minor issues but easily ignored in the context of the rest of the mini arc.

All hail Empress Hoshi!

Yeah, IAMD are two of the best Mirror Universe episodes. Great companions to TOS's Mirror, Mirror. DS9's ventures in the Mirror Universe though.... SMH. Awful.

I found the DS9 ones okay first time around, but now I have the Alternate Realities collection I am kind of dreading rewatching them (the Ferengi one would probably be most enjoyable in terms of sheer comedy, but I don't think it's included). Not sure what the problem is. It might be that there is too much character angst (Kira's relationship with her double, Sisko's dead wife/Jake's dead mother), and plot focus on "how do we get home?" TOS and ENT knew to focus on fun.

Well, that was disappointing after Mirror.

I finished Terra Prime. One episode left, but my understanding is that this is more the finale and These Are The Voyages a kinda shitty epilogue.

Weller's character is pretty similar to Admiral Marcus in ID. I wonder if that was intentional in ID or not. Marcus' great grandfather?

To me this was a return to the more "meh" storytelling of Enterprise. The idea is there and full of potential but the execution, like with so much of this show, was off. I still don't even understand why they cloned a trip/tpol baby to begin with. It seems pretty pointless.

Anyway, on to the last episode.

I don't know what you mean by similar. He's played by the same actor but usually that doesn't mean anything.

It would be like arguing that the Klingon lawyer that defended Archer was an ancestor of Martok for example. I don't think you have a leg to stand on.

You don't find the characters similar? A powerful man with a small but dedicated group of followers organizing terrorist attacks to pre-emptively save Earth from an alien menace? That's both characters in a nutshell.

Edit: Hell, they even both use a genetically modified individual as a key part of their plan, which ultimately causes their plans failure.
