Did anyone get a Windows 10 invite?

I've just done the latest Windows 10 update which has Cortana in it but she won't talk..

Only getting web results when I ask questions. No more talking back..

Also why have my tiles changed colours. Now my firefox tile is grey and not green..

I've had it with Windows... ran into a sleep mode issue. Couldn't get it out of it. Had to hard reset. Found out a way to shut it off for good since it seems to be more of a pain than it's worth. Still taking it in to be on the safe side and to upgrade to Windows 10. Next computer will be an Apple though.

Did some antivirus checking via Avast recently and it came up clean and I did the same today via Malwarebytes and it came up clean too. So I'm at a loss. I also ran a memory scan and that came up with no bad sectors.

So I'm thinking it's just an issue with the sleep mode. I've run into a similar problem with it before.

Also checked to see if any drivers needed to be updated and they were all up to date.

Sleep mode has comes a long way and it's much better than what it was but can still screw the pooch badly.

My wife's laptop is still running Windows 8 and she's starting to have a problem where the wifi won't reconnect when she wakes it - something that some-one else I know had with Windows 7.

My desktop running windows 10 reconnects to the wifi without a problem - I just sometimes experience other issues such as the start menu not workining.

Doesn't seem to have happen if the machine has slept during the day but overnight is another matter.

Yea. I was thinking it was a virus at first.

Did it have issues where it couldn't connect at all and you'd have to input a new wifi connection just to try again?

I had to deal with it awhile back and it was a hassle. It was mainly an issue with the AT&T router. So now I'll have to deal with it again getting a tablet set up. Not looking forward to it.

Edit: It went back into sleep mode again! AFTER I'd set it to NOT do so. Now onto finding out why it's still doing that.

Make sure to check it off in the Settings manager AND the control panel under power management. Sometimes Windows listens to one and not the other. I say this because I had the same issue when I reinstalled Windows 10 the other day (thanks Windows update for the nice crash that came with the download).

Thanks. Will do. Where is the settings manager? I've found the settings for it in the control panel, but no go on finding the settings manager.

Right click the start menu button and you'll see an option for settings.

I still don't know why after the latest update some of my start icons have changed colour...

Also the cortana thing is pissing me off. It does everything as advertised but there's no voice when you ask stuff.

Be sure to check your privacy settings, too. After the update, I had to switch many of them back.

Since we have a few gamers on here question for you guys..

I can't get fraps to record my desktop anymore.. I have all the right options checked in the general options tab but it won't record stuff from the desktop. Used to work flawlessly in Windows 7..

It does record gaming stuff fine. Just not the desktop, which it used to..

Also, make sure your videos can still play in Firefox. After the update, I could no longer play video without it being choppy and skipping. Dammit, I had finally fixed it, too.

OK this is odd I just fixed cortana.

All I did was clear search history in the settings for that and it works properly now, but I have no idea why that stopped it working.

I have a number of weird things happening on this end, too. I'm thinking it's from the update.

There was a technical report in to this update. Someone looked at the details of how much code actually changed and found that, although on the surface the recent update looks almost entirely the same, almost every file in the OS had been rewritten to a greater or lesser degree. So Windows 10 1511 is an entirely new OS when compared back to Windows 10.

Not sure how much of a difference this makes in real terms but... why?

More NSA backdoors :)

I've just got around to reading a magazine we get yesterday and one of the comments about the latest build of Windows 10 is that it seems to be uninstalling programs which have been fine under older builds of 10 and reinstalling any apps you may have uninstalled.

Ones they've mentioned as being uninstalled include CPU-Z, Speccy, 8gadgetpack, Cisco VPN, SATA Drivers, Spybot, F5 VPN, HWMonitor, PC Meter, JavaeclipseMars, Adobe Creative Suite and Android Studio. (In theory, they're no longer compatible with Threshold 2).

File associations may also be changed apparently.

There's also a thread on Reddit about it.

Yeah I've noticed that all my apps list as have been installed on the day I lasted updated to a new revision.

Only app it keeps uninstalling is the connector software for Windows Server Essentials 2012R2.

But having dealt with creative suite in the past I can imagine much frustration. Not only do you have to deal with activation headache but the very large amount of patches and updates that go along with it.

I wonder if things like Speccy were removed as MS might have their own application in the pipeline.. Does make me wonder.

BTW you can reinstall Speccy as I did and all is well.
