Did anyone get a Windows 10 invite?

I have a number of weird things happening on this end, too. I'm thinking it's from the update.

What happened?

Just tiny things, really:

- For example, my default apps will switch to a Microsoft app and I have to switch it back.

- My login screen used to slide up if I pressed the spacebar, but now to get it to do that I have to mouse click, as the spacebar does nothing.

- Icons disappear, or look like blank pieces of paper, and stay that way until I restart. Sometimes they stay that way until I manually change the icon to the correct one.

- Programs like CCleaner take ages to load, where with Windows 7 they popped right up. That one has been happening since I moved to Windows 10.

- Along those same lines, CCleaner crashes all of the time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it. I reinstalled it when I reinstalled Windows 10, and you'd think that would have fixed it, but it still crashes often, with no explanation.

- Sometimes my search bar doesn't pop up. I'll start to type and it will just sit there.

- Programs that are set to load on startup don't load. For example, I use Rainmeter, and it has yet to start up with Windows at all. I have to load it manually. The same applies to Steam.

So just small things, but they are irksome.

I wonder if things like Speccy were removed as MS might have their own application in the pipeline.. Does make me wonder.

BTW you can reinstall Speccy as I did and all is well.

I'd say that's a fair bet.

So far, for me, CCleaner seems fine (though I'm not on the very latest build yet.)

I'll have to check on Steam as I don't have that set to start automatically.

I went ahead and did the upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10. It was pretty painless. I'm getting used to the changes now. I definitely like having a Start menu again.

One bug I can't seem to fix is my start page tiles. All my tiles are green except for Firefox which stands out being grey, and dropbox which is blue.

Maybe that makes a difference. I always have the latest build of CCleaner. I wonder if I installed a much older version would it do the same thing?

I just posted about it before you. It appears there's a bug in there and they want people to upgrade via Windows Update for now. Future updates (probably) will be intergrated on the media creation tool again.

Well that's good. They caught it quick enough, what with all us beta testers out everywhere.

This OS doesn't feel like a full version but a giant beta, hence the sarcasm

I guess the shift over to "as a service" means it's never "complete" as such. So I guess the point is they can change things at will.

I actually meant the latest build of Windows - but it turns out I'm still behind on ccleaner too. (For that I'm on 5.11.5408 - 64bit)

Well, Windows 10 is always up-to-date, because I have the Home edition, which does not allow one to delay updates for very long. It may be due to the fact my version of Windows is 32 bit? I don't know what could be causing it. It happened on the old installation, it's happening on the new installation, I don't know what the root of it could be at this point.

Where I used to click the CCleaner icon and wait maybe 2 seconds on Windows 7, on Windows 10 it's taking anywhere from 10 seconds to a full minute.

They've put the updated Media Creation tool out again, slightly different build (10568.14 as opposed to 10569.11), apparently to fix the bug that was losing people's privacy settings on update.

I'm having a login issue in Windows 10. When I'm done using my computer, I like to use "sleep" instead of completely shutting down. But when I wake it up again, the login screen background appears, but no input boxes for username and password, nor my user icon. So I end up having to do a forced reset with the power button!

Internet Explorer now wants to be my default browser. Fuck that.

And fuck Cortana too.

ETA: And I've lost my Chrome settings. Fuck Microsoft.

And it's lost my email settings! Fuck, fuck, fuck.

Well at least I haven't lost everything like the supposed in-place upgrade to Windows 8, which promised to retain my files and then deleted all of them.

Goddamn piece of shit.

If you have a Google account, signing in to it in Chrome should put your settings back in place. Turning off Cortana and making Chrome or Firefox the default app is simple.

As for email settings, I don't know what your client was, so I can't help there.

Oh, I fixed it okay. It just was another whirlwind of suck to do and a waste of valuable time.

I get ya. If I ultimately decided to move to Linux Mint full-on (letting piles of games and applications go unused), the thing stopping me is the knowledge that having installed Windows 10 three times in two months, I would dread having to restore all of that data again. It's a headache. This is why I think people will ultimately stay with 10. Not because it's awesome (it still has great points), but because switching, or downgrading, is such a pain in the ass.
