I had a genuine windows 7 computer.
The get windows 10 app was not on my computer at the time.
I download the media creator tool and choose upgrade.
Tells me I should have a product key for windows 10.
Apparently only generic key's are being issued so I find a generic key for windows 10.
I plug the generic key in and wait for it to complete windows 10 install
Once it's all done I see that windows 10 is not activated.
I look at the other computers I have. They all have the same generic key.
I roll back to windows 7 and try to clean install windows 10 through an ISO
I can skip the product key part now. Windows 10 gives me the generic key but it's still not activated.
Go back to windows 7 again! I do windows 7 updates and try to push the get windows 10 app reservation
Two days later windows 10 is ready to install.
