Did anyone get a Windows 10 invite?

I'm sure they exist, it's just that the thousands of monitors I have seen in the decades I've been working on them have always had this:

And nothing else.

I know.... Most of my screens have internal power supplies. This is most uncommon.. Oh and the headphone port was external audio for headphones only. I checked the manual.

The new Samsung SE390 looks like it is so thin it doesn't have room for the power supply, so they made an external one. The reviews of it have no DVI-D port.

I am also shopping for a new monitor. The one I use is nice and all, but it is so old that it doesn't support Blu-Ray resolutions (it is an old ViewSonic from 2003)

I have an HP2009m, and it has fallen apart. I have repaired buttons, wires, the case, the speakers, connectors, and everything else. You can see the rough edges along the seams where I've had to pry it apart a dozen times, but it's still working. In all honesty, it needs replaced, but I can't afford a monitor right now, and I have far more important purchases ahead of something like that.

Once I do have the money, though, I'm hoping to get a bigger monitor.

Mine has a VGA port and HDMI connector and a 3.5 headphone socket.

MIne is the S22E390H .. That's the model number on the box

HDMI is niec in that it can carry both video and audio (hence it working with a single cable for tv setups) so it's possible that if you were using the integrated video it could carry sound as well so you could plug your headphones into the monitor.

But the ismiple solutition to read the manual.

Also the use of HDMI on monitors and video cards is becoming a lot more common. Look at many new videio cards and you might find it has no D-sub, 1 DVI and the HDMI and display port sockets.

Basically DVI can't handle some of the higher resolutions (the one's approaching 4K) so alternatives are used.

As for the external power blocks, nothing uncome about that nor is particularly new.

I found this in the EULA..

For those concerned over privacy issues it might alarm you. I'm also in two minds on this..

'We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services,'

No, just no. Is this part of Windows 7 as well? I'm wondering about that tbh.

No. It's just part of the Windows 10 EULA...

Windows 7 never did much in the way of "phoning home" to MS

OMG I just connected up the new screen and Whoah!!!!!!!!!!!

Such a huge difference .... I like to have my pages fill the screen with no side borders so it's amazing reading things now as text is huge hehe... I like it as it's easier to read stuff.

Sure it did (and does).

Microsoft's had this in their OS EULAs for years. Windows 10 certainly takes another step, but Microsoft has gathered mountains of data for many years.

I did not know that. Thank you for sharing.

Ah. *ugh* So not a fan of Microsoft right now. Not looking forward updating to 10. Thanks for sharing the links, J. Allen.

LOL, it gets worse:

Windows 10 user data is being sent back to Microsoft servers back in Redmond, Washington. Well, now new updates that are being deployed to all Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 machines will turn their computers into a big piece of spyware, just like their successor, Windows 10.

The updates in question are KB3075249 and KB3080149. if installed, these updates are known to report your data back to Microsoft servers, without user interaction. KB3075249 Microsoft Update adds telemetry points to consent.exe in Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, allowing for remote monitoring of everything that happens within the operating system. KB3080149 ensures that all down-level devices receive the same updates and treatment as Windows 10 boxes get.

Well damn... there goes Windows! :scream:

Thanks for letting us know. That's crossing a line in regards to what they're doing.

I don't think my computer is up to those updates yet. But I'll be trying to make sure that it doesn't update to them.

I just looked into it... it seems as if they're optional! They're there but thankfully Windows 7 isn't forcing me to update to them.
