Defying Gravity: Discussion thread for the remaining episodes.

Yeah, but airing it on Space is sort of like the equivalent of NBC moving Law and Order CI to USA. Well, except that USA is still somewhat of a major network.

I watched Solitary (Episode 11) last night.

Pretty much business as usual. Nothing really happens.

For some reason I had been under the impression this was going to be a complete story told in 13 episodes. I don't know why I thought that, but it can't be true given where we're at now.

Which means it will end on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

*sigh*

Nothing at all happened in that episode. It was an hour of flashbacks and flirting and people crying or near it. I did laugh at most of the Wassenfelder stuff -- "Creepy AND disgusting." Oh, and when he tried to help Zoe with her "line," that was great. They actually have some weird chemistry together, unlike the rest of the people on this show.

Oh, and apparently Beta wants Zoe and Donner to beeeee togetherrrrrr. He could only pass the impossible (and obviously Beta-controlled) simulation when she was standing there? Sigh. It's probably for the best that this show gets canceled, or I suspect we'd eventually end up with some Zoe-Donner-Beta alien hybrid baby. It's too bad, because the special effects on this show are eye candy and I love that. I was looking forward to seeing the planets, but it looks like we'll never even get to Venus, now.

Hey, you might be on to something there....

:techman:

What's this whole thing with Rollie about? I cannot figure out where that is going. And the rabbit? And Churchy's mother issues?

Strange stuff, but you're right. Part of the appeal (whatever appeal there is) is the eye candy. It's very rich, visually speaking.

I kind of think the whole thing with Rollie was an awkward attempt by the writers to set up a way for him to miss the three hour limit and have to hide something from Jen, therefore pushing her back into Commander Shaw's arms. (Note their flirting in the kitchen during the musical montage, after an inordinate amount of the show was devoted to flashbacks of their previous relationship.) So Shaw feels like Eve is lying to him, Jen will feel like Rollie is lying to her ... cue adultery. Also, Rollie was one of the few characters left who wasn't emotionally tortured, so I'm sure the writers felt they needed to fix that problem.

The rabbit? I have no idea. Jen's a little weird. (Just like all her colleagues.)

Who knows about Paula's Mommy issues? She's clearly psychotic, but I wish they wouldn't tie her faith so much into her obvious mental issues. Every time she talks religion, I want to turn the show off, because she's such a false caricature of people with faith. (Of course, that argument has been done to death on this thread already, so that's all I'll say, other than that I find her character completely offensive from that standpoint, even if she's otherwise endearing/likable.)

I think the implication is there's an abusive relationship with the man we saw leaving the house (father? step-father?) that her mother didn't protect Paula from.

I just remembered the one new piece of information we did get out of that episode -- their DNA is all changing.

(Which only bolsters my "Beta wants Donner and Zoe to make an alien baby" theory.)

If this show by some freak accident does not get canceled, and the alien baby thing happens, just remember: You all heard it here first.

Oh crap forgot about their DNA changing. Man oh man they need to speed things up in this show.

Just saw 1x12: "Venus". Spoilers ahead... It was nice to see them finally land on Venus with Zoe walking around on the surface. I can't wait to see what Gamma has in store for her since she can't retrieve it. Also, it's looking more and more like Nadia will in fact be transformed into a man.

One more episode to go next week.

Gamma will be brought back to the ship and turn the rabbit into a space monster that will kill the entire crew.

Thanks. I just want to see how Venus is depicted in this show. Other than that, I hope the failure hasn't killed off Ron Livingston's chances of getting another show. He does make a pretty good space jock - but he can't be the sole worthwhile element.

The episode is up on YouTube, too. In the interests of time, how far into the episode do they show the surface of Venus?

Last ten minutes or so, Temis.

So, Zoe's toast, or what? I mean, how will she survive beyond the 20 minute mark?
