Definite New Series/Limited Series with Patrick Stewart Returning

"Discovery" would have looked perfect fine

Two different issues, canon violations vs. aesthetics. Move Discovery to post-Nemesis and you solve the first and not the latter. For instance, there's really no period in the timeline where half-collars and arrowhead sequins look good...or that steampunk transporter room.

I actually enjoy The Orville but I hope the show has an updated look rather than go back to the late 90s/early 00s.

Yes I guess there's a clash with DSC, with thirty-five years of TV shows and movies in between ... it's complicated - you've got a vision of the future then there's the further future!

My problem with The Orville production design is the off-the-shelf tables and chairs they use for things like the mess hall. They just looked like they did a quick Office Depot run for them. It gives it an almost fanfilm vibe it's so cheap.

Given McFarland's attitude is that really surprising?

So news is going around that one of the possible new series/limited series involves the return of Patrick Stewart.

Just for fun, what timeframe would you like? A decade after Nemesis, sometime after whatever happened with Romulus being destroyed?

I would like it to be fifteen years after Nemesis. Picard is either an admiral or an ambassador. I love the older lady diplomat in the expanse and would love to see something like that. A conspiracy that Picard uncovers and with friends both old and new he slowly pieces it together and saves the federation. Would love at least one episode with him in command of a ship or a fleet.

I suspect if Spiner returns at some point they'd only save him for a few select scenes, utilizing deaging tech for whenever he's around. I remember first watching NEMESIS and theaters and when we got the first shot of Data at the wedding that Spiner's age was becoming very hard to hide.

I always thought a good explanation for that was that Data was cosmetically aging himself as part of his ongoing experiment with the human condition, as well as a bit of psychological salve (not that they'd really need it) for his aging crewmates- a way to continue to 'fit in' with his friends, as it were. After the last of them passed, the immortal Data could then re-organize his appearance into whatver way he found appropriate.

As for Stewart returning to Trek...

Inasmuch as TOS is my favorite Trek, the reboots and prequels are not. The fan-made TOS shows are far more fun and a true throwback to the original, IMHO.

So if Stewart is coming back, then let him be Picard and place his story arc in the post-Nemesis phase. I really like the idea of him playing a role similar to that of the lady who leads the UN in The Expanse- that would be awesome. Let's face it: Picard is destined to be a legendary figure in the history of the Federation and especially Starfleet- it's high time he moved on to flag rank or something diplomatic and larger-than-life.

Yes please an Ambassador Picard's show. Lots of diplomacy - leave the action stuff to Discovery. There's action and so called excitement on every show. I want what made star trek unique. Great leaders solving conflict with great words.

Need great writers for that. But I like the sentiment. Seconded.

Sir Patrick just confirmed it:eek:

Stewart added that now, in particular, seems like a good time to bring back the character, who exemplified calm, moral, reasoned leadership. “During these past years, it has been humbling to hear many stories about how The Next Generationbrought people comfort, saw them through difficult periods in their lives or how the example of Jean-Luc inspired so many to follow in his footsteps, pursuing science, exploration and leadership,” he said. “I feel I’m ready to return to him for the same reason – to research and experience what comforting and reforming light he might shine on these often very dark times. I look forward to working with our brilliant creative team as we endeavor to bring a fresh, unexpected and pertinent story to life once more.

I AM SO HAPPY!! I hope the writers are great. I hope we see some other 24th century faces but in a natural way that serves a great story.

PICARD!!!!!

Such an exciting news!! It will hopefully further Star Trek’s timeline, which will give us a chance to learn what happened to the universe after the Dominion War, Romulus destruction, etc!

Very cool.

I assume we'll see an Enterprise-F flying around somewhere.

Just a shame that Eaves will be the one designing it. Cut-out city!

Very excited to have one of Trek's most accomplished actors back where he should be, centre stage of a Star Trek show. Cannot wait to moan endlessly about this one.

I would be surprised if Picard were still a captain - I think this series lends itself perfectly to see an Ambassador or Admiral Picard
