DEFIANCE Season 3

If Mrs. Rafe hadn't dragged Christie and Alack out of Defiance, her family would still be alive. But she has successfully destroyed her family by her selfish and crazy actions. i don't have much hope for baby Luke. I am guessing that Alack will stop being such a naive boy and finally become tougher....actually more like his mother. She has the guts to do whatever it takes to survive. She is fascinating to watch.

It's Linda Hamilton dude.

Without her "crazy", Defiance would have had insubstantial warning to stop the VC from Destroying the town and the next 10 town past Defiance, which mans that there would be no Human VC Alliance to stand up against the Omec.

This is what I don't get, is that these goons who are too stupid to tell fact from fiction are smart enough to read a book, and that looked like maybe 5 hundred pages.

Before the 14th century, it was illegal and a capital offense to translate the bible out of Latin. The Church loved it that the common folk were unable to read the good book, because monopolies are very profitable.

During the first chat, Darla and Wolf were deeply suspicious, one of them was "You have a ship, a working ship?"

OH!

Is this a new expansion for the game?

Are we three months behind or three months ahead of the game?

Okay, I get "Darla," but who is "Wolf"?

Grant Bolwer played the dad (Wolfgang) to a family of white trash, low end criminals in the New Zealand dramedy Outrageous Fortune.

The Sheriff from Banshee, Antony Starr, played Wolf's two identical twin sons remarkably by himself.

It all happened a long time ago, and a long way away.

...You had to be there. :)
My first thought when you said Wolf was tishinka, which is Irathient for Little Wolf, Sukar's nickname for Irisa.
I actually watched most of the first season of Outrageous Fortune last year on Netflix. They pulled not long after I stopped though, which really pisses me off because I loved the show.
I didn't realize the sheriff on Banshee was the twins, that would explain why he seemed so damn familiar.
Is the online game still a thing?
It was shortly after the end of last season. I played it for abit on my PS3, and I enjoyed it. I've actually been thinking about going back to it.

So, were my eyes deceiving me or were the painted Irisia's breasts blurred out on the book cover?

Yes it was written by Mordecai somethingorother and that's the name of Robin Dunne's character. Presumably the same Mordecai.

Just finished watching it.

ALL THAT DEATH IN THE SNOW it was Fargo with aliens.

Very upsetting. Felt sick. Felt sad. Rafe was such an awesome character and his alliance with the Tarrs was so amusing and now, gone. And that's not even the most upsetting death. Awful.

Alak Tarr needs to, I don't know I was going to say grow a pair but really it's mail order a pair because he is working with NOTHING. WHY did he not kill Pilar and take his kid? When he knows she is 100% nuts, evil, nasty and not to be trusted?! Does he have Stockholm syndrome after being chained up for 7 months? WTF is wrong with him?

This is all very dramatic but I was enjoying SO MUCH the Tarr crime empire and Christie coming into her own in that household and was anticipating alliances and machinations against E-Rep this season and whoa. Not the plot at all. Might never see any of that again.

As to the NEW, made for action figure PURPLE PEOPLE! Okay they look very stupid. I enjoy that there are still ships up there with people in stasis, it makes sense. But would have been a lot more fun if it was a bunch of rogue terrorist Castis rather than new Wraith race. Oh well, there are space ships poised to destroy earth, that's science fiction.

Apparently, has very active forums. Never got around to checking it out, there was always some computer thing going on that prevented me and then I would forget. People on reddit are asking for the codes etc.. that get tweeted during the show and apply to the game.

I am kind of upset about the McCawleycaust as it's being called on tumblr. I wish they had left us Rafe at least, that guy was so great with the Tarrs.

I loved how these eps were all in the snow. Very atmospheric.

I 'm also in the camp that killing all of the MacCauleys was bad. Rafe & Datak were like G'Kar & Londo in Babylon 5.

Killing the son -- cool...heavy motivator for Father & Daughter. Killing the Daughter -- driving motivator for husband & father. But killing off Rafe?? Sheesh.

This genocide (everyone who was supposed to be at least part Native American in the case) takes out a major plot of Defiance. It reminds me of the "cleansing" in the second season of War of the Worlds.

The purple aliens remind me of the Green uniformed Avatus of Earth Final Conflict's 5th season (including the animal like behavior).

Was Dr. Yul's skin pre-definied, or some TV magic that seemed to have been whipped up?

I'll watch a few more episodes..but not so excited now.

I'm still excited, however your Rafe and Datak = G'Kar and Londo has made me sad because SO TRUE and it was just getting into it's groove. So much potential.

I feel like they took something really charming that worked well and just wiped it out because they wanted more high drama. I always liked the smaller story element of Defiance, the town full of aliens and how they ran their life and crime and brothel and entertainments and marriages. I don't think there will be as much room for that this season.

We didn't have to see them go. TPTB could have removed these actors between seasons by exposition. Although the dead don't stay entirely Dead in defiance.

Not sure I'm digging the whole Omec plot. It's giving me something of an 'Earth: Final Conflict' in the third or fourth season vibe.

Also, am I misunderstanding things or are they implying that the Omec created all the Votan races, or just the Indogenes? Did they raise the others up to the level of space faring to serve them? If so, was the failure of the Omec ark an act of sabotage and their journey to Earth as much an escape from slavery as an escape from a nova?

The other Voltan were free Range.

The Omec took what they needed, when they needed it.

Maybe the Omec slept for hundreds of years like the Wraith from Stargate Atlantis did, as part of their culture, rather than as a method of transport?

So, is the Earth Republic all gone or just left Defiance? What happened to Mercado and the other E-Rep guys still alive in Defiance?

The Earth Republic is still around. They just lost interest in Defiance once the gulanite mines were kaput. They cared about the mines (and the buried Votan ship), not the town.

Plus their capital was obliterated so they probably have their own problems.

More like EFC Fifth season - the Atavus.

I thought they had mentioned something in the 1st season about a race that was either killed off...but i'm not sure if was the same as a race that i thought was like pure energy (or something unique)

The pure energy beings were the Gulanee, who we met last season. I don't remember anyone ever saying anything about them being extinct before that.

Yeah, I'm late to the party. Going to be like that this season, I'm afraid.

Anyway, yes, YES! This episode rocked. Gripping entertainment from start to finish. It's like the writers remembered what they were doing right back in the first season and thankfully forgot everything that went wrong in the second. Although, I ma glad that some of the better aspect of the second season are kept around, specifically I noticed Berlin has been promoted to main cast and she seems to be Lawkeeper not. Hopefully that stays permanent, cause I would be disappointed if the show kept it a regular thing of Nolan disappearing for the off-season and conveniently getting his job back when he returns to town. But then, what else are they going to do with Nolan?

A bit sad but very surprised to see Rafe killed. Really did not see that coming. It's actually a pretty good death scene and perfect way for the character to go, avenging the family he's lost and defending who he has left.

So we finally get to see the oft-mentioned Votanis Collective. While I enjoy the Castithan general they've introduced, what's with the VC being so barbaric? Heads on pikes attached to their trucks, a plate of human ears. It makes the Nazism of the Earth Republic look tame by comparison.

The Omec remid me a lot of the Wraith from Stargate. You got millions of them hibernating on that ship with two staying awake to look after things. They're basically vampires, and even share a common backstory, what with them culling the Votan races back in the day.

But I'm pumped all the same for the rest of this season. Bring it!

Nolan has had sex with Kenya, Amanda and Berlin. There is only one female main left other than his (adopted, so could work..) daughter.

Stahma/Nolan ftw!!
