Death for nothing?--spoilers

So I am not quite sure what damage, if any, the Kelven did to the Romulan ship. Have seen the movie three-times. Was there any mention by the Romulans if any damage had been done???

Rob

They did have a quarter century to repair the ship. But no, I don't recall any mention of it later in the film.

Given its size and the fact that it is 129 years more advance technologically, the damage would likely not have been critical and they had 25 years to repair after...

That's why George Kirk didn't just program a collision course- he needed to distract the Rommies to save the shuttles.

I meant he didn't just program it and then leg it. That is if I remember it correctly. He shot the Rommies until the weapons failed.

Right?

George Kirk spent his last minutes using the phasers to shoot down the Romulan missile/torpedoes that were flying toward the escape pods/shuttles.

He was also firing at the Narada until systems were destroyed and he rammed it.
It looked like the Narada was pretty damaged by the impact too, those escape shuttles were flying away pretty slowly and the Narada didn't manage to catch them before they were rescued.

According to the comic, the ship was outfitted with Borg technology, which should have allowed it to repair easily.

In that same scene there was a ton of debris floating away from the Narada so it does look like a decent bit of damage was done

It also looks like the Narada was still comming out of the singularity. Maybe it just couldn't move just yet.

I thought he was doing something pivotal instead of just being obtuse about the collision course thing.

Wouldn't the Kelvin's warp core explode? Perhaps that was what George Kirk was thinking. That would cause a good bit of damage, even on a ship the size of the Narada.

The purpose of the collision course was to disable the Narada - the novel confirms that - with the hope that it might destroy it. According to the novel and the prequel comic the Narada had the ability to repair itself automatically by regenerating.
