I think it has to do with if Jurgens is on a book too long it goes to shit or something. That's just my take on it, I actually have no idea why fans have that stance on him. I have no problem with Jurgens work.
^Exactly the problem, most of the stuff was written decades ago. Since then he hasn't improved much in regards to writing much like Claremont/Byrne/Wolfman and the other writers from the 80s.

I thought Booster Gold was pretty good...Vanishing Point was a mess.
To me, Jurgens was a staple of the 90s/00s. In any event, are you saying that he was good then, but hasn't gotten better? Wouldn't that make him, at least, still good?
Grant Morrison has never been anywhere near as good as he was from the mid-80's through JLA and yet people still love him.

Grant Morrison's Batman is awesome. Perhaps too esoteric and ambitious at times for people to get into but I've had tremendous fun with him writing the Bat. Morrison seems to be a very dividing figure in the fandom. People either love him or hate him. I will most likely always be a fan of his. He has yet to disappoint me.
Morrison is probably the best comic book writer working for either DC or Marvel.
Jonathon Hickman is right up there. He is the Marvel version of Morrison.
As great as Action is, I'm also really enjoying Superman. I agree that Cat seems like she's in the gossip column, or at the very least just an airhead oblivious to the real world. ("Boring social issues stuff.")
Seeing her and Clark paired together should be an interesting thing to watch, though.
Read two books last night and enjoyed both.
Aquaman #2 - AWESOME read. I liked how we are shown Arthur and Aquawoman, er Mera having quite time at the house. Even a little item such as Arthur in some tan lounge pants. Not sitting around "in costume" waiting for action. Curious to see who the man in that picture is that "shouldn't be there". The way Mera answered the deputy's question about what she does. Overall just a great issue, looking forward to finding out about the Trench more next issue.
All Star Western #2 - Rediscovering my Jonah Hex love with this arc. I was very unsure about the Gotham tie-in but it is proving interesting. Anyone else think it interesting that one of the hired stooges sent to kill Hex and Arkham wore a 'Red' Hooded mask? Even though he wasn't anyone important the visual wasn't lost on me.
I really want to read JLDark and I,Vamp but I've got a busy night go those will have to wait. I've only read one comment here on JLD, anyone else get I,Vamp #2 also?

I don't even know why artists use significant amounts of crosshatching anymore. It's like they haven't actually seen their finished work on the page. What is this "kohm-pu-tor" of which you speak?
I mean, if they wanted to do a throwback thing, where they used flat colors and crosshatching represented shading, and comics looked like Neal Adams books from 1979, that'd be really cool. But as it stands it's just a duplication of effort, at best, and it's ugly overrendering, at worst.

I find Hickman pretty boring - his writing is excellent and I can understand why people like it but it does nothing for me as it seems to have no emotional core.
I agree. He is good at world building and high concepts, but he is terrible at any kind of plot resolution (Secret Warriors, Pax Romana) and he really can't compare to Morrison as a character writer imo.
Nah, it's actually pretty obvious.
I absolutely love the simpler lines of a Darwyn Cooke or Tim Sale, but for some reason Chiang's work just isn't grabbing me the same way.
I mean, their women look curvy and sexy as hell. This new WW just looks tall and gangly. Too many straight lines for my taste.
How is Cat an "airhead oblivious to the real world" just because she isn't supposedly interested in social issues and would prefer to write gossip? I don't get that take at all. That could mean any number of things, for instance she's just not interested in politics and social issues. I know a lot of people who are like that and they're some of the smartest people I know. I think there might be a little generalizing here. Cat Grant has kind been a caricature blonde stereotype before but I don't think that this one is. We've just seen the surface character so far and a couple of lines from her.

Maybe it was a mistake for Perez not to direct the artist to draw her twirling her moustache while she stepped on a beggar's hand, but I didn't think "too subtle" was really a problem for him here. Live and learn.
