Spoilers DC TV Arrow/Flash Universe Crossover Discussion

I think the weakest link was the Earth X resistance. They should have made Earth X's Guardian more central to the storyline (rather than killing him after a quick fight), and he should have been the one to defeat Dark Arrow. Alternatively, they could have put General Winn in the Guardian suit (taking over after James died) and have him be the one to take out the fuhrer.

Biggest surprise was Thawne saying he has fought Superman in the future. I wonder if they have any intention of following that up? Doubtful given the limited appearances Superman has.

Originally I thought the Metallo was from Earth X. But maybe Thawne brought him from Earth 38. It was a cgi character but appeared to be voiced by the same actor who played John Corbin. The producers seem reluctant to show identical doppelgängers. We can have a evil Oliver, Kara but not two good guys with the same face. Metallo was just Metallo.

I greatly prefer Leo Snart to the version we saw last season in the Legion of Doom. He was just a one note bad guy.

But Leo is too much of a one-note good guy. I mean, even the Flash didn't object to the others killing Nazi soldiers in the heat of battle. Calling for due process in the middle of an armed invasion was a little incongruous.

It looks like they've found a way to keep Wentworth Miller around in the Arrowverse for a while longer, anyway. Although I wish Leo had given some explanation for his decision to "stick around" on Earth-1.

But, in the real world, the Earth-X Resistance don't have their own TV show and are not the stars of the current shows, so, of course, the Big Bads are going to be defeated by Supergirl, the Flash, Green Arrow, and the Legends, because these are not episodes of THE RAY or THE GUARDIAN or THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS. :)

But the Guardian/James is a regular character on Supergirl, even if he's been somewhat marginalized lately. I agree it might've worked better to have him leading the resistance. Maybe that would've worked if they hadn't been using this to set up Freedom Fighters: The Ray as an animated spinoff. (Animated prequel, actually, judging from the preview clip and who isn't dead in it.)

Well, they certainly made up for the complaints from the previous crossover. Cohesive story, big event moments, lots of team ups and characters, surprises and the kitchen sink.

I totally didn't recognize Felicity with brown hair. Took me a lot more than a few seconds.
I was surprised how different the general seemed from Winn.

What are they going to do in syndication and home video?
I know that when NCIS: Los Angeles and Hawaii Five-0 on CBS crossed over, and I believe whenever the Chicago shows on NBC cross over, the DVD boxsets include the entire crossover event.

I felt that they should have at least given Dark Archer's body to the Ray to take home as a war trophy to inspire the Resistance.
Also, I wish that Earth-X Guardian and General Winn Schott had been friends, and Guardian's death was an additional factor in motivating the Earth-X Winn to attack the facility ASAP.

Yeah, and why didn't the Ray take some time onscreen to visit his family?

I think the best possible explanation for Overgirl "flying too close to the sun" would be that she purposely powered up in order to kill her cousin (who had turned against the fatherland). The Earth X Guardian/Jimmy could have been the one to convince the Earth X Superman to fight for the resistance. That would have given an Earth X Guardian/Overgirl conflict some extra substance.

So, Oliver is the fuhrer? That could have been made clearer in the first two episodes.
I thought it was made clear when Thawne left, and he and Kara had a chat. Something Kara mentioned made me sure of it. I don't remember the line that made it clear, but she wouldn't have been badmouthing Hitler while caring about his commitment to the fatherland as much if he wasn't. I also thought I it seemed to make sense if he was a mayor with a secret identity on Earth-1, he would be fuhrer with a secret identity on Earth-X.

I remember seeing a preview of The Ray fighting the Nazi versions of Arrow and Supergirl in some dystopian world. I didn't realize that would tie into this crossover. So where were Uncle Sam and the rest of the Freedom Fighters, assuming they existed? I don't know if the comic book Ray Terrill was gay, but it surely made for a more interesting story for him and Leo Snart to be partners in more than one sense of the word. I'd never seen so many same-sex kisses anywhere else on primetime TV before this crossover! And that's not a bad thing.

I just have to say I was sadddened by the death of Professor Stein. I'd heard that Mr. Garber was possibly leaving the series, but few fictional character deaths have had an emotional impact on me. The Firestorm duo have been there since the team's inception, and it's hard to imagine one without the other. Martin had longed to come home to his family, and while he and Cisco came up with a concoction to safely separate him and Jax, both Jax and the Professor realized they had been a family to each other all along. I guess what made the death more tragic was that Professor Stein wasn't with his biological family. In real life this happens too, and not everyone gets to say goodbye to their loved ones. :(

Overall, this was a great crossover event.

Edit: How could a man like Oliver Queen be the Fuhrer on Earth X? All that was established was that he was a skilled fighter and archer, but there was no background on how he rose to power. And the Nazis were Nazis - they were about Aryan superiority and all that stuff. Part of me was expecting a different take on them, like Khan Noonien Singh.

Other then the wedding scene (And me realizing I might not like Felicity anymore) it was a great event. I was wondering if they blew thw CW’s budget on this thing because some of the action scenes were incredible. Also mick is always good for a laugh. Who was that one girl who was with Vixin and Killer Frost. I guess she is new to legends this season?

I just finished with the whole thing. There's definitely a lot to nitpick and plot holes and all that. Some of the dialog was a little iffy, and so was the acting at times. And yet, I don't think it's possible to sit and watch four consecutive hours of TV and be more entertained.

And the Legends part was pretty brutal. I damn near started bawling.

I don’t watch legends but Garber and especially the guy who played Jefferson did a hell of a job. I almost got emotional.

That was a definite gap in the backstory. My personal theory is that in Earth-X's history, the League of Assassins went public and integrated into the Nazi power structure. Ra's al Ghul succeeded Hitler, Oliver was his protégé, and thus Oliver became incumbent führer.

.

Thawne never said he BEAT Superman in the future--just that he was faster. I think that treating Superman like a weak hero that can't even beat a Flash villain would be a huge mistake. If they use Superman in the future, they need to remember he is the A list hero, and should be treated as such. You don't want a situation where he would save the day alone, because the other heroes need things to do, but if there are multiple objectives, each hero can shine without weakening Superman.

In this episode, another flaw was the absence of the US military. Um, this was an invasion from a foreign power--the military would be fighting the Nazi soldiers while our main characters were fighting the evil metas.
