DC to REBOOT???

^ Abandoned that after the first issue but I wouldn't be surprised since I think the relaunched Batman: Dark Knight starts out with a completely different plot than the Dawn Golden kidnapping plot. I think it is an Arkham Aslyum story. I like Finch's art work but wasn't a fan of his writing.

Eh, I like bagging and boarding my comics. No, I don't expect to get rich off of them (unless I get around to building that time machine and go back to 1938), but I do like to keep my collection in a nice condition.

I bag, board, and box as well. I like to keep my comics in nice condition so I can read them later with all the pages intact and I find it's the easiest way to keep them neat and organized rather than cluttering up my room.

Loved this from bleeding cool:

some guy emailed Brett Booth about his Green Arrow cover for the first issue of the relaunch:

Dear Mr. Booth:

I've always loved reading Green Arrow, not only as a comic book fan, but as an avid archer as well, and I was excited to see the cover for the new Green Arrow #1. Unfortunately, However, I did notice inaccuracies in your art. To be honest, accurate portrayal of archery has been a problem I've always tried to overlook in comic books, but you've forced me to ?nally speak up.

On your cover, Ollie's technique - and I mean this in the most constructive way possible - is appalling. He's pulling the string back like an amateur, and he's holding the arrow with what seems his entire ?st, which I assume is the only reason it hasn't fallen to the ground, as it doesn't look to be resting on anything at all. I know an inexperienced comic book fan wouldn't notice this, but I'm sure I can't be the only archer that enjoys Green Arrow. Quite frankly, it's such a jarring mistake that it completely destroys my willful suspension of disbelief. I mean, he IS supposed to be an expert archer. Your cover clearly illustrates that he is, in fact, a fool. And I'm not even going to get in to what that silly thing he's holding is supposed to be.

So please, as a service to fans of my kind, research a little bit more before drawing such painfully blatant inaccuracies. You wouldn't expect an artist to draw a gun or an airplane without knowing what it looked like, so please show archery the same respect.

Sincerely,

P.S. The new costume is pretty wicked, though.

His response?

Dude, Fuck off.

I was asked to do that cover in like 3 hours. To be honest, I don't like GA, I did it as a favor.

Go shoot some arrows instead of wasting my time

That's a completely appalling response. Booth sounds like a 19 year old punk and certainly not a professional. "Dude"? Cursing? It was constructive criticism and a fair letter. Booth better lose the attitude or he'll have a tough time getting around in this world.

Nitpicky fans have been around for forever...

They're dicks too. Good for Booth telling Nolan to fuck off.

It was constructive criticism and a fair letter.

Not really.

Booth better lose the attitude or he'll have a tough time getting around in this world.

Oh, he'll do just fine not putting up with nitpicky twats. The likes of Merritt Nolan, however, will have to get used to that sort of treatment if he thinks he's entitled to the ear of a stranger in order to call the guy's work "appalling" for trivial reasons while claiming to be "constructive."

Ok, so did Batman: The Dark Knight #5 just set up a plotline that it's never going to follow through with?

The best example of that was in whatever that Batman series was that was mainly about Hush - em.. was it the tail-end of Legend of the Dark Knight?

It concludes with the Joker about to kill Hush and Batman wondering if he should save him and then...

the editorial page has a little caption box that says something like "Why don't you work out for yourself how this story ends!"

Similarly, I remember a few years ago picking up the first issue of a series about super-powered gangsters and at the end, there was a page that said

"you know the cover says that this is a series? well it was suppose to be but the pre-orders were really awful".

Gawd what was that comic...

Another tease was revealed on The Source today.

They did actually wrap up the Golden Dawn storyline in #5, in a very rushed way, but the end of the issue sets up something that's related to something else that happened during Golden Dawn. Judging by the summary for #1 next month, it doesn't seem like they're related. I could be wrong, though.

Fans can be dicks, but the guy did not write a letter like "Dude, you fucking suck. You couldn't draw a goddamn archer for shit as your drawing indicates. The bow doesn't look like any pressure is even being applied to it you fucking loser! What are you, a fifth grade retard?"

THAT would've deserved "Fuck off".

What Brett Booth got, at best, was a strongly worded letter.

Brannon Braga and Rick Berman had far worse written about them, by far more people, on a far more consistent basis...and to their credit, they acted like pro's in their responses.

Nitpicky fans are part and parcel of the biz and they always have been. ANYONE who can't take a strongly worded letter, needs to run home, cry to mama and get the fuck out of the business of putting their stuff in front of other people.

Booth is an employee of DC and he needs to act like it. He'd have already been fired from any other job for this kind of failure to reflect positively on his employer. The little princess doesn't get a break because he's an "artist".

But hey, it's totes cool for someone in a dying medium, at a flagging company, desperate for new readers to tell those needed readers to fuck off.

^ It is rather amusing that Booth told the guy to fuck off when the New 52 are specifically designed to draw in "new" readers. This guy is probably not a new reader but just a fan attentive to detail and decided to bring it to the artists attention. The response he got would probably alienate most fans, or discourage them from attempting to interact with their character's book creative team. So I hope DC's creators continue to address the problems that fans bring up to the them in such a manner. :) (Of course I'm being partly sarcastic here).

This really all translates as "OMG! That could have been me!" You identify too much with the fanboy.

I'm sure that Booth can "take a strongly worded letter." He just didn't feel like it, and good for him. You're absolutely wrong that artists have to put up with this shit...there's that fannish culture of entitlement.

I love it that the twat apparently tried to ding Booth without identifying himself and got named anyway.

Dennis, sometimes you're as nitpicky about not being nitpicky as a nitpicker is about picking nits.

And anyway one oughtn't pick nits, you treat the scalp with medication.

Aren't we all fans here? We're posting on a Star Trek message board after all. It's easy to identify with the "fan boy" since we are fans of something or another here. Like I said before I have no problem with the way the letter was written or Booth's response, but considering the PR opportunity DC has been pushing for this relaunch I would suggest treading carefully in the future.

It's easy to identify with the "fan boy"...

I don't identify with the kind of shit we're discussing; it makes me a little crazy. Entitlement, plain and simple.

(Watch someone try to be rhetorically clever by insisting that artists aren't entitled to jobs or an audience. Duh! They know that; they live it. Some suffer fools more patiently than others.)

Well, Justice League #1 is out on Wednesday, and I'm actually really looking forward to it. When I think about it, I've not actually read a lot of Geoff Johns' stuff. I think only really Infinite Crisis, a bit of his Green Lantern stuff, and his run with Richard Donner on Action Comics. I'm probably more recently familiar with his work on Smallville, which I thought was pretty good, so I'm optimistic. Plus, I fucking love Jim Lee's art.

I'll probably be picking up JL#1. I dunno if I'll be continuing it though. I am kind of interested in the first arc being an origin story.

I've been looking forward to the relaunch since it was announced so I will definitely be getting JLA first thing Wednesday.

Fail.

You were presented with an example of people who suffered far more egregious comments for the better part of a decade, yet who acted in a far more professional manner. But keep trying to ignore how professional behavior works. I'm sure if we talked to some CEO's about letting their employee's tell the customers "fuck off" they'd be siding with me. In fact I'd put money on it.

I'm sure that Booth can "take a strongly worded letter." He just didn't feel like it, and good for him. You're absolutely wrong that artists have to put up with this shit...there's that fannish culture of entitlement.

I am an artist, genius.....and I've had to listen to people like Nolan. So save the white knighting for artists for someone else. When I'm being paid by someone, regardless of the job, I keep my personal feelings to myself. I'm on their dime, and acting in a way that could drive their business away on their dime is unprofessional to me.

Clearly you have a different work ethic.

And that's the issue I have and all your bleating about "entitlement" doesn't change that.
If this were his personal Deviant Art page with his own stuff, and someone came at him, let him lay the smack down however he see's fit. That was not the case.
