DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Well, it sounds like they're going to let Gunn do his own thing, so I would judge based more on what you think of his stuff, than by what you thought of the first Suicide Squad movie.

It's all come full circle since the first movie was trying to copy GOTG 1's style with a classic song in it's first trailer(Bohemian Rhapsody).

Which would be a collosal mistake.

^^^^This. The opening of the movie, the split opening as if the movie were starting twice, really bugged me as did the way the team was introduced and then brought together. It could have been a much better movie if we got straight into the plot more quickly than we did--even if the backstories were filled in with more flashbacks.

Right. The first part of Suicide Squad was infodump after infodump about the origins of the team, but since there was nothing in particular that the team was being assembled for, there were no stakes and no reason to care about it all. Just a terrible story structure.

But that does not provide any sort of motivation to ignore continuity, was my point. All the characters are in a very workable situation to jump right into a sequel.

The first act was a hard slog, but it got better.

Well, there's also the plot point of how their mission made no sense...Waller could get away in a Helicopter the whole time so what was the Squad there for in the first place? What were they supposed to do? Clearing away the hostiles around the building didn't mean anything if she could fly away anytime.

^ How you managed to miss the point of Waller's actions baffles me, because it was pretty straightforward: she was doing a "field study" to test the veracity of her "social experiment".

The Squad's "mission" wasn't about rescuing her; it was about her observing whether or not - and how quickly - they would turn on each other.

She didn't even intend for them to stop Enchantress and Incubus; they decided to do that on their own, and she took the credit in the aftermath.

I've seen it three times and can't think of a single scene that even hints at this, so acting like it's so super obvious is rather ridiculous. Having said that, its a good explanation. I like it.

^ The proof of Waller's intent exists in the resolution of the Squad's "mission" itself, and provides the entire motivation for them going after Enchantress and Incubus in the first place. Flagg wants to get June back, but the others sign on after Harley convinces them not to let Waller manipulate them and then toss them aside.

It's not "telegraphed", but once we learn that Waller was the person they were sent to "rescue", the last piece of the puzzle falls into place and her intent becomes crystal clear.

That's how poor the writing was. Of course, having the Squad go up against a supervillain when that's traditionally the opposite of what they do was even more poor.

because it was pretty straightforward: she was doing a "field study" to test the veracity of her "social experiment".

...Then why use them for a mission where her own life was at stake?

The Squad's "mission" wasn't about rescuing her; it was about her observing whether or not - and how quickly - they would turn on each other.

So all the money and effort was put into something she suspected would fall apart from the start? What kind of a wastrel is this idiot?
