DC Comics: Rebirth

I've just read the first three issues of The Eradicator arc. It seems that the story takes place after Lex becomes Apex Lex but before the Justice Doom war actually begins--Superman has revealed his identity to the world so the story has to take place after the Legion of Doom attack in Metropolis from Action Comics.
 
Today saw the release of the "Flash Forward" trade paperback, and surprisingly, it included an extended version of the epilogue from "The Flash" #750. Apparently, this was intended for the FCBD "Generation Zero" release, and it has a cliffhanger leading into Death Metal.

DC has released a music video trailer for Dark Nights: Death Metal, featuring Marilyn Manson's Warship My Wreck, which will be featured on going to be releasing a soundtrack they're going to be releasing.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by Death Metal #1. Seemed it fused the Heavy Metal-esque crazyness (referring to the comic book magazine, not the music genre) with the DC-meta-verse of Doomsday Clock. Now I'm actually glad circumstances made me pick it up.
 
Ending DC Direct is also a massive shift.

It is quite weird, though, that they waited to do this so close to the DC Fandome event.

Well, from the latest reports, not only will both monthly and collected releases be reduced heavily, but collections of classic comics will be licenced out to other publishers. IDW would be the first to come to mind. Oh, and Mad is gone, maybe will be licenced out, as well.
 
Yeah, this is sad on so many levels, the layoffs during a pandemic obviously being the worst going without saying, but this is definitely all unfortunate.
 
A lot of this sucks, especially the reduction of titles (although I only read 4 DC titles at the moment), but Harras leaving is great. The man has always been an incompetent asshole, since back when he was at Marvel (look up his competition with Peter David and his Marville book to see how bad he is at actually making comics) EDIT: Obviously this was Bill Jemas, I'd a dumbass, but Harras has still done a lot of stupid shit.. First didio, then harras, and I read somewhere that, while Jim Lee is still with DC, he's possibly no longer the publisher.

In the end, a lot of people who lost their jobs were probably good at them and should have kept them, and I hope things go well for them. As for DC comics, in a few years (once the US gets free of the pandemic, probably 2-3 years after everyone else) DC might actually be in a better place with some of the old blood getting removed, but it sucks that a lot of people lost their jobs, especially right now.

Marville was Bill Jemas, not Bob Harras.

This is about overall corporate direction - the people planning DC Fandome would have no idea and the C-suite would not provide any information in advance - you have to let people think it's business as usual... until it's not.

I would amazed if it looks much like anything of the DC of today - I'd be amazed if it produces many if any floppies within a few years.
 
Yikes, this is definitely not good news. Things are definitely not going well for the comic industry right now, first with the drama around Diamond, and now this.
For a while now I've been wondering if we might see the whole industry transition to just trade paperbacks/graphic novels, and this kinda feels like it could be the first step in that direction.
