DC Comics: Rebirth

yeah, Wonder Woman Rebirth seems to be addressing the different origins the character has. i imagine that aspect will be explored, especially if they touch on the recent twins revelation.

i really like the new direction for Action Comics and Detective Comics. though, i miss Cassandra Cain being Batgirl. Orphan is kind of a lame codename. i do like the team Batman has put together.

i haven't read The Final Days of Superman yet, but i like the idea of Pre-Flashpoint Superman being in a world that is familiar but also... not. Lex trying to assume the mantle of Superman is interesting.
 
I just realized that thanks to Rebirth and the last year or so of comics, they've brought back pretty much all of the characters people were missing when the New52 started.
 
Wonder Woman Rebirth #1 was pretty good. While Azarello's run was ok, I never really liked it as the actual, main universe version of Wonder Woman. This rebirth issue makes me very curious to see where Rucka will go with his story, and makes me excited to read what comes next.

Aquaman Rebirth was also pretty good. i liked the reveal of the narrator, it should have been obvious but I didn't guess the identity. The story it sets up also has a lot of potential. I'll definitely be trying Aquaman out.

Flash was the weakest of these three issues, but it was still pretty good, at least once the part that connects to Rebirth #1 started.

I was thinking of Fringe Season 4, where Olivia gets her memories back from the previous timeline, even though they are still living in the rewritten one.
 
Detective Comics was ok. I still don't like how the New 52 reset Stephanie brown and Cassandra Cain back to step 1, I've already read good stories where they came into their own as heroes and gone far beyond needing boot camp with batman. So, it feels like I'm reading a huge step back for the characters, which isn't too compelling. Still, it was written decently, and I'm slightly curious about who the villain is, so I'll keep reading.
 
They really did do some strange things to these characters over the years.:wtf:
 
I read Detective Comics this morning too. I enjoyed it. I never read Batwoman so it will be interesting to get to know her character. It's too bad that they couldn't include Harper Row in the team. She's an interesting character and she seemed to be developing a connection with Red Robin. I would have liked to have seen that explored a little more.

I also got caught up on Batman Beyond yesterday.
It looks like this arc is paving the way for the return of Terry McGinnis, which makes me wonder what they are going to do with the older Tim Drake since he comes from an alternate timeline.
 
Yeah, DC's New 52 reboot helped them a bit in the beginning, but I looked it up a month or two ago and it seems like, market share wise, the New 52 has been doing worse against Marvel then the pre-reboot DC was doing near the end. To be fair, DC hasn't beaten Marvel in Market share for as far back as I could find info (which I think was 2002), even the reboot didn't have them beat Marvel in market share in the year it happened, but DC have definitely done a lot better then they have been doing the last couple of years.
 
i knew DC wasn't doing as well as Marvel... but i didn't know it was that bad.
 
DC's percentage of the market may have gone down since "before" but we can't be certain if the overall size of the market has doubled or halved since an unspecified point in history.

Even if the market size had halved, the unit price has doubled, so they're still making the same amount of money.

It's the small press who are the real winners, who have quadrupled their market share since 2002, the last time I was really taking notice, and doubled their unit prices.

DC may not need to look immediately over their shoulder but IMAGE is continuing to gain ground. Just using Diamond Comics website of archives on this topic shows the rise of IMAGE. I say this cause I'm asserting that DC isn't solely losing readers, dollars and market share to Marvel only.

Jan 2008 shows IMAGE with 3.4% Market Share
May 2016 shows IMAGE with 7.95% Market Share

Image in this time leaped over, gained and has maintained a lead over Dark Horse, the former #3 Publisher.
Image is very likely to have 10% market share by 2020 if it sustains this type of growth. Question is, does DC continue to take a hit into the lower 20's? Does Marvel slip with it?
 
I don't think Marvel slips. DC/Marvel are the biggest companies for a reason. As long as they still have characters like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, etc they'll always be on top. The fact that most of the best comic writers work for at least one of them also helps.
 
Yeah, no matter how big it gets, I don't really see Image actually beating Marvel or DC. It could come close, but I don't see it getting bigger numbers that either of them.

Image has routinely been hitting 10% market share in the last two years. The last six months have actually been down from their trend.

Dark Horse took a real hit to their market share when Disney pulled the Star Wars license from them, and they seem to be permanently locked as the #5 publisher. There are months where BOOM! Studios surpasses them.
