DC Comics Ongoing Discussion

Is there a specific reason, or do you just prefer paper overall?
The vast majority of comics I've read have been digital, and I love them. I can zoom in and out, I don't have to worry about them getting torn or beat up, and no matter how big they are, they're all the same size and weight, so I don't have to worry about lugging around some huge 400 page behemoth when I get things like the DC anniversary collections, or a Marvel epic collection. And I can carry my entire collection, or at least the 5 or 6 collections I usually have downloaded at one time, without having to worry about how much space they take up or weigh.
I have an old-school collector's mentality. I like to own stuff -- actual stuff, not ones and zeros. I have five bookcases (and counting) full of comics trade collections, and I take pleasure in seeing the physical display of my hobby.

Also, I simply don't associate dedicated reading with screens. (I don't do prose ebooks, either.) For me, screens are for ephemera -- email, blogs, discussion forums, news stories. Things I skim and dismiss. To me, "real" reading is when I'm holding a traditional book and turning actual paper pages.

Which I guess is a long way of saying basically what you suggested in your first sentence: that I just prefer paper overall.

It is a shame that Amazon bought them out.
It certainly is. I can understand the Comixology people cashing in (I’m sure Amazon offered a boatload of cash) but they didn’t need to merge the app into Kindle. I don’t really want Legion of Superheroes mixed up with my collection of books on 17th century Europe.

Time Bubbles are tricky to control.

I feel exactly the same way--my kindle is now a mess for the first time ever and I'm not even sure how to fix it. When the merger happened we were told the app and our DRM backups would continue. Now, we now longer have either--nor do we have a comic reader-friendly site for browsing purposes.

To be clear though, Scott's family is still around in the comics. Like many, he kept his orientation a secret for from his family and friends and did not come out to them until recently.

Well, him being gay does play a major part in the story, but it also makes it painfully clear why he hid it for most of his life. Also, Doiby was one of the few who knew.

Maybe I'll give it a go. It probably didn't help my first impressions on the change that the New 52 Earth 2 stuff wasn't very good, and at least the current Alan Scott is based on the Golden Age version.

Has anyone noticed the change in paper quality, especially the covers, in the January releases? What's up with that?
I noticed the interior paper changes for sure. I'm disappointed. I much prefer what they were using before.

The New 52 Earth 2 still exists, but I'm not sure if it is still called Earth 2.

Yeah, that bugs me too.

So I read a few comics about ten years ago. The majority of them was Harley Quinn stuff but I’ve become interested in Batman-centric stories. Particularly Hush because I’ve been told it’s very different to the movie which I really enjoyed. Also White Knight and Batman Noel sound really interesting.

Today I read Finding Batman by Kevin Conroy and it was so lovely and emotional.:weep: The artwork was very charming.

Anybody else here read The Legend of Wonder Woman? I'm a little over halfway through, and I've been enjoying it so far. It's been a interesting take on her origin, with some nice twists thrown in, although it was a little surprising to see Diana's aunt conspiring against her mother after the way she was portrayed in the movie.

Read it when it came out, which was ... almost a decade ago. Wow. Anyway, I liked it very much, certainly more than the then-current main book. It sold pretty well, was popular with readers and critics. There were sequels planned, but unfortunately writer/artist Renae De Liz had a major falling-out with DC when they announced a mini-series about pre-Wonder Woman Amazons, and De Liz had had a similar pitch rejected.

Wow. I can't believe it's been sitting in my read pile that long! I really need to get to it...

I was wondering why it was "Vol. 1", when it was a one off miniseries that never got any sequels. I guess that would explain it.
