DC Comics Ongoing Discussion

February Solicits are out.

- "New Champion of SHAZAM", apparently a 4-part sequel to this summer's SHAZAM mini-series, with Mary replacing Billy as the champion. Haven't gotten the SHAZAM mini, thought I'd trade wait on it, so I'll probably do the same with this one.
- "Aquamen", new series (ongoing?) co-starring Arthur Curry and Jackson Hyde. I'm considering it, but it sequelizing The Becoming and Black Manta (which both end in February) makes me unsure.
- "Monkey Prince", the long-awaited title starring the new hero based on the Chinese mythical hero the Monkey King, written by Gene Luen Yang with art by Bernard Chang. Says limited series, but not how many issues. I'm thinking about this one.
- New 3-part "Suicide Squad" mini-series under the Black Label banner. Maybe, I mean three books is not that much of a commitment.
- The usual Valentine's Day anthology oneshot. Yeah, given up on those.
- "Milestones in History", the Milestone team doing a oneshot for Black History Month. This I'm gonna get for sure.
- The tie-in mini to the Harley Quinn animated series is ending with issue #6, Tom King's Supgergirl mini ends with #8.
- Jon Kent guest-starring in "Nightwing" #89 might get me to buy a Bat-related book for once.

And, if I'm not mistaken, there is no new Bat-title launching in this month. Shocking.

I'll get:
ACTION COMICS #1040
SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #8

NEW GODS BOOK TWO: ADVENT OF DARKNESS

March Solicits are out.

- Oh, look, three new Batman titles, "Killing Time", "Beyond the White Knight" and "Batman/Faze Clan". Gotta make up for no new Bat-title in February, I guess.
- Well, technically four new Batman titles, as there's also the launch of World's Finest by Mark Waid & Dan Mora. Yeah, that one I'm gonna get.
- Oh, and there's also a Bat-related oneshot, "Shadow War: Alpha". Man, who's got that much time and money to read all the Bat-books?
- "Naomi Season Two" launches with Bendis. David F. Walker and Jamal Campbell returning. Not sure if I'm gonna buy this issue-by-issue, as I got season one as a hardcover collection. Might wait for the HC of season two, as well.
- "Trial of the Amazons" launches as a crossover over the Wonder Woman-related titles, starting with a two-issue miniseries, followed by the final issue of "Nubia & the Amazons", the regular Wonder Woman title, and a special Wonder Girl two-issue miniseries. Aside from the crossover, there's also a "Sensational Wonder Woman Special" anthology oneshot celebrating International Women's Day.
- Another crossover "War for Earth-3" connects Suicide Squad, The Flash and Teen Titans Academy, including another two-issue miniseries.
- "Rogues", a 4-issue Black Label series not Bat-related. Instead, it focuses on the Flash's Rogues' Gallery. Interesting.
- Nightwing #90 guest-stars Wally West, so I might have to get this one, as well.

April Solicits are out, and THE JUSTICE LEAGUE DIES!

Probably just for a few months, as it seems to set up the next big event, but the current series ends with #75. Hm. And they say "killed", they even have coffins for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Lantern (John Stewart?) on one of the variant covers. On the other hand, none of the other books appear to be affected. And, seriously, Diana just came back from the dead. They just launched a new book co-starring Superman and Batman, they just launched Aquamen. I don't know, doesn't appear well-coordinated at all, even if it's just for a couple of months. I mean, when Diana was dead, she wasn't just dead in her own book, she was dead in JL, too.

Other thoughts and notes:

- New Bat-title of the month: Batman Beyond: Neo Year. Never followed the Beyond continuity much outside the cartoons, anyway, so I'm not getting in now.
- Issue #2 of Batman/Superman: World's Finest has nice variant covers by Pete Woods and Tim Sale. The issue itself guest-stars the Doom Patrol, and it's nice to see them pop up in the comics again.
- Geoff Johns returns for Flashpoint Beyond, a sequel to his event crossover from 2011. Not very interested in it, and it doesn't seem to tie into what's going on with the larger DCU (though, again, considering the JL dies without apparent effect on the other titles, so I'm only guessing here), I'll pass on this.
- The Flash movie gets a comic prequel The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive, guest-starring Batfleck. I'm here for that.
- Earth-Prime, a tie-in to the Arrowverse, since they can't do a crossover event on TV thanks to Covid, this comic is thrown out for us fans. I'm on board, but tbh I'm glad the cover artist isn't doing the interior as well. Bit too stylized for a tie-in to live-action productions IMO.
- Trial of the Amazons concludes.
- Third issue of Monkey Prince goes back to a comic book tradition of having a popular character guest-star in a new series to help generate interest, and it's obviously Batman, because DC hasn't enough other books with Batman.
- Nightwing #91 has Wally West again, so I'm buying that.
- The Flash reunites Wally West with Wallace West.

Brian Augustyn passed away.

Among his most famous works as a solo writer are "Batman: Gotham by Gaslight" and "Crimson", he also collaborated with Mark Waid a lot on books like "The Flash" and "JLA: Year One".

The crappy celebrity deaths just keep coming.
