DC Comics - Ongoing Discussion - SPOILERS

Lost army is canceled and over with with episode 6 that came out last month.

Weird is that the Star Trek/Green Lantern cross over is in continuity. Hal showed up in the Federation from whatever the hell the ejected the lost lanterns into the last universe. Oh, it's shit, don't bother.

Once Geoff Johns left Green Lantern I immediately lost interest. I stayed with it for the next storyline, but after that I had no hesitation in dropping it.

Not liking John's new clothes. There something about a rumpled suit and overcoat that is timeless. Not sure what up with his new pants. Storylines have been okay, but I'd like to see John back in Britain.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of calling him "Shazam". I get why for branding purposes, but its stupid. The wizard is Shazam, the hero is Captain Marvel, no matter what a-hole copyright thing Marvel Comics did. Its not like DC has even banned the name, since Grant Morrison called Earth 5's version Captain Marvel in his Thunderworld book last year. But, then again, having the horrible New 52 character be called "Shazam" just disconnects him more from the real character, which is a good thing.
They really had to no choice but the change the name. I'm amazed it took them as long to change it as it did.
When both companies have a character with Marvel in the name, there is no way that DC is going to be able to keep using it. They might have been able get away with if it longer if it weren't for the fact that Carol Danvers taking the name at Marvel really did a lot to raise it's profile there. Now on top of that we've also got Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel being a huge hit, and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel movie on the way/.

I'm assuming the comic re positioned to match the tone and presence of the TV show, which lasted all of two months more than a year ago.

The deal from the 1970s, was that as long as the name Captain Marvel doesn't go on a DC Comics cover, the peace will be kept.

Did that not hold up in modern times?

But did they have to change John's wardrobe????!!!!!

Time moves.

The only reason john could possible be dressed like that today and still only be 35, is if he's an ironic hipster.

New wave punk was 1979, where John was 22, which would make him 59.

You can move the dates around, but a 60 year old John Constantine still wouldn't dress like a 75 year old man unless he was going to costume party with a free bar.

(I haven't seen his new threads. Looking now. Not seeing anything that isn't a tv show or movie. Meh.)

DC can use the name "Captain Marvel" as much as they want, just not as the title of a comic (or movie, I guess). Grant Morrison called him Captain Marvel just last year, in his fairly high profile Multiversity series. They can even call him Captain Marvel on TV shows as long as its not the title. I like Carol Danvers a lot, but she's not the real Captain Marvel. Just because Marvel Comics were a-holes and pulled some trademark shenanigans in the 70s doesn't take away from the fact that Fawcett Comics created Captain Marvel in the late 1939/1940, and that character, and variations of him, are the real Captain Marvel.

I get why DC changed the name, but that's still not the character's real name. Unless we're talking about the horrible New 52 version, I'm fine with calling that idiotic jackass "Shazam". I acknowledge DC's name change they use for legal purposes in movies and on covers, but to me they have the rights to the only character who can rightfully be called Captain Marvel, and (with the exception of the horrible New 52 version) I'll always refer to him as Captain Marvel, and Marvel's Carol danvers/Mar-Vell/Genis-Vell/Phyla-Vell by the characters real names.

Wait, tan overcoats are new wave punk? I think his look was based on Sting in Quadrophenia.

Originally John's era of his youth is new wave punk, but sliding time would put a 35 year old John now in early 2016, as 20 during the turn of the century. Fortunately there was a second wave of punk I remember taking hold of the world about thenish.

Yet he dressed like his own father for three decades, why?
