DC Comics is doing new versions of The Flintstones, Johnny Quest, Scooby Doo, Wacky Races

Other than the teenage Pebbles and Bam-Bam, they seem to be sticking to the original versions of the characters, so I have a feeling that is probably the only reason the girl from the '90s Johnny Quest isn't around.
I am curious what kind of modern stone age stuff they are going to come up with for the new Flintstones. I love the picture somebody posted up thread of Fred and Wilma taking the selfie and I really hope we see a lot of that kind of stuff.

So why does it look as if they may have stuck a new member in The Impossibles???!!!!!! (Hope she isn't)!!!!!!!!

Despite your being up in arms about this, I thought the Impossibles were a rather forgettable part of HB history. Although I will say that I recognized their pictures on banners in the comic-con scene of Scooby Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon.

Well, it certainly stuck in my mind - I think it's the best cartoon in the entire history of animation!!!!!!!! If it has been forgotten by many, that will be due to it being curtailed too soon by the carping 2-bit pressure groups who had some crazy idea about it being "too violent" ! The Impossibles is the main reason why I think any other animation studio - including Disney - can only ever hope to come second to HB.

An attempt to add more diversity. Nowadays you really can't get away with having all male teams. It was the same reason The Hobbit movies created Taureil and expanded Galadriel's role, and Boomer and Starbuck were gender swapped for the RDM Battlestar Galactica.
I personally don't see what the problem is. I would think it would be better to add a new member than to replace or gender swap an existing one.
I'm all for more diversity, so I don't mind this kind of stuff.

Rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does it look like I'm delighted about it?!!!!! Or are The Impossibles going to become victims of the over-the-top PC brigade on this issue like they were regarding supposedly being "too violent"????!!!!!!!!

Anyway, hopefully the abomination in blue is not in fact a member or will be got rid of quickly.!!!!!!

I honestly can't tell at this point if you're just pulling our legs about this, or you're actually that invested in them. Either way, I think you're trying to artificially create a shortage of exclamation and question marks with your abundant use of punctuation.

(Also, multiposting is kind of frowned upon here.)

No - I really do feel strongly about them doing a take on my all-time favourite cartoon which I really don't like. Sorry if my ranting got on your nerves and about the multiposting. I've just been so pleased to find so many still really like this and other HB cartoons in the last few years and do feel exasperated that there could be a take on them that's really different.

Nah, that wasn't even close to getting on my nerves, so don't worry about it. :techman:

I don't think gender swapping or replacement should even be considered. For some teams the addition of new members, (and sometimes the fact that others leave),. works really well, but I don't feel The Impossibles is one of those. Diversity can be added with characters who are not actually part of the team, if this series continues that far. I think a new member would take away some attention from the original ones which would be a pity as the series was cat short when it was first shown, so we haven't seen enough of them anyway! And adding a character purely to be PC seems pointless to me.

You know that probably The Impossibles are the most obscure HB superheroes and that it is more likely that we see a new Dynomutt, Dog Wonder TV show before anyone seriously consider working on them? ;)

That is true - and I really do think it's because the shows were cut short because of pressure groups saying they were "too violent". But they are my all-time favourite. I'm actually thinking the unlikelyhood of a new T.V. show, etc. will at least mean there is less chance of a reboot which changes them too much! It would be good if they had a bit more recognition, though. Some sort of tribute for their 50th anniversary this year would be nice - it's the 50th of several other HB cartoons. too.

Ehi! Look at this frame! :) (from Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon)

I have seen that and I think it's funny! Actually - as well as these cosplayers being different shapes and sizes than some of the characters they are dressed up as - can I point out that the actual Impossibles all had very different looks and body types but were all considered heart throbs - that says that you don't have to look a certain way to be attractive and sends a very positive message as well as adding diversity.

Yeah, most likely the case. Ah well.

I can certainly see where they are coming from with the latter picture and it is clever, but I must admit I find it a bit irritating as it makes me think of all the publicity-hungry celebrities posting lots of these in the media! Can I ask - (and I don't mean to offend), if you like lots of modern crazes and that's why you like the idea of a female Impossible, even though that was never in the original design?

It's nothing to do with modern crazes, I'm just a big supporter of more diversity and representation in media. I'd never even heard of The Impossibles until you brought them up, I just don't think you can get away with all male teams in modern media. I have a feeling if they did a TV reboot they'd probably add a female team member there too.

I can understand if the team was bigger, (12 or so), it would be odd to have them all male, (or all female, for that matter), without a sensible explanation, but not when it's just 3!!!! I think the fact that they all had very different looks and body types but were all considered heart-throbs was a good measure of diversity - adding a token female just to satisfy some extreme PC agenda seems pointless to me. Sorry I've been so over-the-top, but I've always loved this cartoon and really don't like the idea of a version which is much different from the original, nor do I feel it's necessary.
