DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Unless they do a limited series actually adapting the comic, I'm thinking this is a Bad Idea.
After the HBO Watchmen series, I'm a bit more open for other ideas. In fact, I'd prefer the Watchmen approach of a well-written sequel to the comic to another adaptation. So far, to me none of the Alan Moore adaptations have even come close to being as good as the source material, but i found the HBO Watchmen series to be a more than worthy sequel, and I kinda wish Moore hadn't been soured by the treatment he and his works got from DC and WB so he'd have given the show an actual chance to win him over.

The Watchmen series was fascinating. Not only was it an excellent show in its own right, but it's something I don't think has ever been done before -- a screen production that's a direct in-continuity sequel to a comic, rather than an adaptation in an alternate continuity.

imagine if the dccu never changed to the dc universe in 2023

We have yet to see even that much from Supergirl.
Which one will be coming out first? I Lanterns is coming out first, then that would explain why we've seen more from it.

Do you mean the DCEU? Then I have no interesting, I'm finding what we're getting in the new DCU a lot more interesting.

Per recent reports (including the one above that I was responding to), Lanterns is now coming out after Supergirl. The release date of the latter is now only about seven months away, and we have yet to see so much as a single production still from it — just a teaser poster and a couple of BTS photos.

I suspect we will finally get a teaser trailer next month, however.

Oh, that is a surprising, I thought it wasn't coming out until late next year or early 2027. I wonder if there's a specific reason why they're waiting to promote it?

I posted a couple of weeks ago about how the radio silence on the film makes little sense to me:
I’m (past) ready for the promotional campaign for Supergirl to start kicking into gear. Surprised we haven’t seen Momoa in costume as Lobo yet. (Not that I personally care — I’d prefer he wasn’t in the film at all — but it seems an obvious thing for the studio to put out there.) If Superman is any example, we should get a teaser trailer by the end of the year at least, but I think it might have been a good idea for them to push one out a bit sooner, to better capitalize on Superman’s momentum and the buzz over Alcock’s cameo in that film. Superman also got a ton of free Internet advertising thanks to the location shooting photos, which Supergirl hasn’t had the benefit of. Plus Supergirl is releasing a little earlier than Superman did (June as opposed to July).

Patience, I know. :p
I then added:
I forgot to mention above that putting out that Supergirl teaser poster mere days after Superman’s release was a great idea, but it’s been radio silence ever since. They should have maintained momentum by parceling out some little something every six weeks or so — a Lobo promo shot, as mentioned, or a dramatic image from the film of Supergirl with Ruthye. Keep reminding folks (particularly audiences that loved Superman) that the next adventure of the Superfamily is coming soon, before the first trailer hits.
I realize, of course, that they want to save the big promotional $$ for closer to the film’s release, but in this social media age, it would have been so easy to put out the occasional photo or something every six or eight weeks following Superman’s success, just to get #SupergirlMovie periodically trending. Would have cost them virtually nothing, but would have kept the impending Superman follow-up fresh in people’s awareness.

Seems only logical to me, but I’m probably not a highly-paid Hollywood promotional expert for a reason.

The Superman teaser wasn't realized until early 2025 I think.
It was released in December, and that was for a film that premiered slightly later in the year than Supergirl is going to (July versus June).

Anyway, they’re two different films, which means the marketing strategy needn’t be identical. I detailed my reasons above for feeling Supergirl could have better capitalized on Superman’s success by keeping itself consistently in the public awareness. It’s rare that you have a follow-up to a hit film releasing less than a year later. Keep reminding the first film’s fans that the next installment in the saga is mere months away.
