Spoilers Daredevil: Born Again discussion thread

^ I'm actually surprised to hear that, since it seemed like his whole arc was pointing towards only two possible outcomes: he dies or he lets BB die.

And I found it hard to imagine that they would let BB go the way of her uncle, so . . . this would seem like the most likely ending to Daniel's story.

Yeah, the article goes over some of that. Even Gandolfini thought so.

Karen and Heather each pushing the other's buttons was awesome, probably the high point of the episode and it's now more or less confirmed what will happen to Heather in season 3 given that i have seen production pictures of a certain character. I really loved Heather's character arc, her slow descent due to the traume inflicted by Muse and it's especially fascinating that it's happening to a psychologist who should instantly spot the problems but she is of course blind to it as it happens to her. It's not a complete copy of Jokers' Harley Quinn but the parallels are there.
I just read through the Wikipedia pages for Heather and Morgan Whittier, who's story they also used for the show's version of Heather, and I'm very curious to see if they actually go through with the end point of Wittier's storyline.
Pour one out for Daniel. This show is doing many things, but putting Michael Galdolfini on the map was certainly one of them. He'll never be a leading man, but should have a long career ahead of him.
He already got a fair amount of attention when he played the younger version of his father in the Sopranos prequel movie, so he's already fairly well know.

Damn, this was another fantastic episode, with so many great scenes. Karen's confrontations with Fisk and Heather were fantastic. I think it's pretty clear that Heather has gone completely off the deep end at this point, and really belongs with Fisk and Buck.
They really got me with twice with Daniel storyline for this episode, for minute a thought he really was going to turn in BB, and was relieved when he didn't. So that had me thinking that maybe he wasn't totally irredeemable yet, but then we got the second shock with Buck killing him. While I'm sad to lose the character, I do agree with the creators that killing him was the right move for the story.
I loved Matt showing up at Karen's trial.
I was a little shocked that the Task Force guys actually went as far as attacking Karen, Matt, Cherry, ect. on the way out of the courthouse. I guess at this point they really do consider themselves untouchable, but now that we're heading towards Fisk's downfall, I wonder how much longer that will last.
Bullseye saving the Governor was not what I expected him to do for Matt.
I was glad to see more of Jessica, and it looks like she'll be back again next week too.

For me, the shot looking at the Guv at her desk from over the balcony telegraphed Bullseye's involvement. That shot seemed to underscore her vulnerability.

Well so much for my Hellcat theory (for now!) I'm honestly shocked that Luke is back working for the man. The only thing I can think of is that it was to avoid yet another stay in prison, and/or part of a deal to leave Jessica & Daniele alone. That or Claire *really* didn't appreciate being dumped, and leaving the country was the only way to escape her wrath!

Likewise! The only reason I can think why they went down that other path initially, was that they were thinking more of Buck's arc than Daniel's. Glad that they came to their senses though. Better that the character have a meaningful and memorable exit from the show than just slink away into a loose plot thread.

I'm curious where they're going to go with this now in season 3. If nothing else it should alter BB's personal arc somewhat.

Luke working for Valentina could come down to his time as a crime lord. He is a superpowered individual who might have some baggage that he would like to go away. That seems like just the type of individual that Val would recruit for her purposes.

I haven't seen all of Luke's show, but I know how it ended from comments here and other places, and I could see it having been a work for us or go to jail situation. And obviously part of the deal was that they were supposed to leave Jessica and Danielle alone.

Oh I never doubted why he'd be a prime target for recruitment, just his willingness to sign up.

I'm watching Happy Sad Confused with Charlie Cox and, after a surprise video from his long-time friend Tom Hiddleston, Cox mentioned that during the original 18-episode version of season one, Hiddleston was going to direct one of the episodes!

Damn. I'm sorry we missed out on that.

Holy intensity, Batman! I mean, Daredevil!

Even though I suspected Matt's move an episode ago, it was still stunning to see him publicly reveal himself as Daredevil in the court of law and quickly confirm the veracity of his claim by using his folding cane as a billy club (even if the physics is obviously bullshit). I'm glad the show didn't hide behind the seriousness of Matt's decision and there will be dark repercussions to this knowledge. I eagerly look forward to seeing how season 3 explore those issues and perhaps even address how Murdock's previously tried cases could and will be revisited.

I loved the gamut of reactions to Matt's revelation but the most striking one to me was Heather's, which felt like a mixture of disbelief and bemusement at Matt's apparent delusion (to her in that moment). I often wondered after season one how she would discover the truth and, while I originally had hoped she would figure it out on her own, after seeing how much she fell down the Muse-shaped rabbit hole, I'm glad she learned the truth this way. Undoubtedly, accepting this truth is what drives her to put on her mask, thus making her hypocritical to her own criticisms. I loved that super creepy shot of her in the mirror to suggested that Heather's old self is now is the reflection and called back to her own comments about masks and public personas during her testimony.

Even though the parallel is undoubtedly deliberate, it was still quite jarring to watch the Daredevil mob storm the courthouse and how it evoked January 6. Both were horrible moments of anarchy, fueled by very different forms of anger, but each of them ended in very different manners. Probably the best parallel to real world events in this show but it still unnerved me greatly.

I was both horrified and shocked by how much Kingpin let his fury loose on the crowd, even if it felt inevitable. The level of violence during that sequence is probably the most grotesque this show has done, right up with the head popping (which Fisk almost did an encore of...). There's no coming from that level of public violence and yet somehow Wilson did get some kind of deal, although we don't know what exactly it is. The scene in the dream was clearly in Wilson's mind since that's the same location as his dream with Vanessa, only this time he's alone. I'm not sure how this will connect to that season 3 spy photo:
He's apparently living on the streets with a great big beard!
Charlie Cox noted in the Happy Sad Confused podcast I linked yesterday that he begins the season with a big beard, too. So clearly there's a big time jump in between seasons.

And now for those wonderful closing scenes! I dared to hope we would see Mike Colter (and uncredited!) pop up as Luke so I was overjoyed when he walked through the Alias Investigations door! Who I didn't expect to see was Michael Ellison welcoming BB to the Bulletin! I was delighted enough to see Ben's photo in BB's video but I'm so happy to see BB following her uncle's footsteps and I can only hope we see plenty more of Ellison next season alongside BB.

The fact that Poindexter is flying somewhere with Mr. Charles gives me shivers. Undoubtedly, Poindexter is about to do some extra shady work for Mr. Charles and presumably Val. I cannot fathom how badly that will go for all involved.

I wonder if the fact that Poindexter (have they ever called him Bullseye in either of the shows?) is now working for Mr. Charles and we can assume Val opens up the possibility of him showing up as a member of the New Avengers.
This was one hell of a finale.
I have to admit that Matt outing himself as Daredevil didn't occur to me until the started talking about the Northern Star, so that wasn't a total shock. It was hell of a scene though.
It was great seeing everyone coming together at the end to finally deal with Fisk, and the big final moment with Jess and Matt saving Fisk, and then his conversation with Matt was another highlight.
I can see where there were some parallels with Jan.6, which does bring up some pretty mixed feelings, which I guess was the whole point.
Luke showing up was a nice surprise, and is also a nice set up for his presence next season.
I have to admit, I wasn't sure if they were actually going to go there with Heather, but they did. I wonder if this means she'll be one of our bad guys for next season, and I could see his past with her being part of what ends up getting Matt released from jail.
I didn't realize that was the same place from Fisk's dream with Vanessa, so that actually opens up even more questions about where he really is.

Very cool to see Angela officially taking up the White Tiger mantle. A new Young Avenger to be recruited by Kamala and Kate?
Damn, I knew I forgot mention something in my review: She was so damn badass in the finale. Both vocally and in action. Jumping off the walls like a tiger?! Yeah, that's definitely a magical amulet. I would love to see her team up with Kamala and Kate (and Riri!).

I thought the same thing and I can only hope so.

There is no reality in which they would actually put Matt Murdock and Officer Powell in the same prison. If nothing else, it gives Matt a chance to beat the shit out of him.
