Dac's NX-01(.5) & more!

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

Hey Dac, your skills evolved a lot since the old SFM days. Congrats! You´re building beautifull meshes. If my memory serves, you started an Ent-J too, loooong time ago. Is that lady already finished?

*** If you´re not the same Dac from SFM, forgive the references that I post, but not the congrats about the meshes. ;)

I am indeed the same Dac from SFM. And thank you very much for the kind words. :)

The E-J? Hah, I started and restarted that thing about 20 times in an effort to get it right. Now Doug has posted some more references of it about I may have another shot at it, but the old old ones are not in any decent shape im afraid :P

And BolianAdmiral, thanks as well. Unlike my previous post where I had a mini freakout, I havent quite given up on the 1701-D yet. Heres how she looks now:

For anyone interested, the windows at the bottom of the saucer are physical, i've cut them out of the mesh and they have some depth to them. The Windows on the Neck and top of the saucer however are textured. I may cut out the windows at the top of the saucer, but the ones on the neck will probably remain a texture, as I did cut them out, but the poly count went completely bonkers and liked to freeze my mac every time I moved it around the viewport.

Wow. Just wow. I have to say, Dac, that's the first time I've seen the secondary hull post-separation actually look... good.

(No offense intended, Sir Probert, please!)

Cheers,

Thanks, but I think that might have something to do with me straying from the original a little bit.

The way I'd laid out the saucer, I kinda have to narrow the neck down a bit, so the post separation "head" if you like (the bit with the Battle Bridge on it) is a little thinner than it should be. Plus, the most readily available reference I had was Art Asylum/DST's 1701 D, which I think has a thicker separation "line" or Rim than the original studio model.

Again, I don't profess studio accuracy, as long as it looks like the Enterprise to a reasonable degree of scrutiny (ffs, don't measure the alignment of the windows, please! :p ) Im happy with it.

Although, once again, having said that, I've redone the deflector a fair amount. Heres how she looks now.

Yes, theres some segmentation, but to be honest, for what I intend it for, this is about as close as i'd get (Rediculously cryptic point: and about the same angle too). ;)

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

Now, if you'll excuse me, tonight's viewing is at an end. Its Half 3 in the morning here, and I need Sleep, Data. Sleep.

G'night.

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

WHAT?? The windows don't align!?!?!?!?! ;) ;)

*Kidding*

And who needs sleep? You'll get enough of that once you kick the bucket.

Cheers,

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

Great work Dac! I see you wasn´t crazy enough to cut all those windows. :)
About the separation, the neck and the "cobra head", I believe thet you need to smooth (subdivide?) the polly a bit. In the pics Screenshot2010-09-09at154053.png and Screenshot2010-09-09at011807.png I can see hard angles, instead of the smoothed ones, like the filming version. Maybe chafering the edges you can get a better result, ;)

Re: Dac's NX-01(.5)

There was a thread about phaeton99's Galaxy class refit that was not an Alliegiance/sovie hybrid.
There he made the ship look leaner with a cab-forward/saucer forward design.
That might be a good departure, or the study model on p 71 of THE ART OF STAR TREK.

Wow, page 3, I really have been playing too much Halo...

....as evidenced by me making a very rough but likeish enough CCS Class Covenant Battlecruiser :p

Heh, Thanks SPCTRE :P

Here's a little thing I whipped up. I create the elements for it months ago, but I only just got around to compositing it all together the other day. Its a very quick shot, but its a HD test of what an effects shot from Q Who might look like.

Dac, I have a C4D question, if you don't mind. What method are you using to cut windows for your meshes? I've been using C4D for awhile, but I'm self-taught, and I have a lot of holes in my skills. You're not using booleans, I take it?

Thanks,

Guy
