CW's The 100

In British shows, people in the distant future or from alien worlds or from the distant past all speak with English accents. In Japanese shows, they speak Japanese. And so on. Presumably what we're hearing is "translated" for our benefit.

Well I also like to complain that they sky is blue.

It's amusing to consider the English accents in Reign that everybugger has, despite the lead being Australian and most of the cast being Canadian, but the characters are primarily French, Italian and Scottish.

Of course when in Pompeii, the TARDIS was translating Latin for Donna between herself and the locals, and she wondered what would happen if she actually spoke Latin to the Romans, what language would they hear?

They thought that she was Welsh.

Yeah, I was amazed when I saw how few of the main and recurring cast members of Reign are English. Of the main and recurring cast the only people who are actually English are Anna Popplewell (Lola) Toby Regbo (Francis), and Anna Walton (Diane). Adelaide Kane (Mary) and Caitlin Stasey (Kenna) are Australian, Yael Grobglas (Olivia) is Israeli, and Johnathan Keltz (Leith) is American. Everyone else is Canadian.
The actresses who play(ed) Greer and Aylee don't have Wikipedia pages, or birthplaces on IMDB.

I thought the second episode was pretty good.
I also got the book and noticed a few things flipping through it.
First off, it is done in a rotating third person perspective kind of like A Song of Ice and Fire, and there is a character named Glass who doesn't appear to be on the show.
There appear to be flashbacks. With so many shows doing flashbacks, like Arrow and Revolution, I'm surprised they didn't do this in the show too.
There don't appear to be any chapters focused on any adult characters.

Agreed, they are doing a good job developing what they started last week and not going episodic (though next week's Earthside adventure seems to be going that way). The Ark's council is obviously not thinking ahead beyond maintaining the staus quo - even if they could prove that the Earth is habitable, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of craft to get there.

My wife dropped out this week, citing the CW Teen Drama (tm) getting in the way of the narrative. 99 teenagers partying for a night and a day without even mentioning being hungry or thirsty, and various other dramatic license tropes were too much for her. I'm continuing on, though to be honest I find the orbital intrigue to be the more endearing plotline.

Wow, in the interviews I've read they kept talking about shockingly dark the shows goes. I think after last night's episode we are starting to see what they mean.

I think we can safely say Charlotte took the whole "slay your demons" thing to literally.

You know how this could get worse next week?

If Charlotte tries to kill the rest of the black kids until she feels safe.

Charlotte vs Lizzie(TWD) in a knife fight lol.

I blame Hit Girl. Didn't have little kids killing people this much before that.

Lizzy and Charlotte were both filmed months before they aired.

Neither show knew about each other child psycho.

"Morphic fields".

Opinion after 2 episodes: the show makes no sense and the young adults are really annoying. Its also misogynist..women are basically objects to barter with. Id have kicked the "leaders" ass already to shut him the fuck up.

I don't think it's Misogynistic if the Leader isn't portrayed as being in the right for what he's doing.

I mean, the main reason he's doing his best to keep things chaotic is because he knows he's as good as dead if the Ark people come down anyways. So this way even if he dies at least he dies as the guy in charge.

I know it's not unusual for Game of Throwns, but it's another 12 year old calming sitting down, smiling and stabbing some poor bugger in the neck.

I think we need to declare an epidemic.

Fictional children all over TV are being somehow compelled to stab fellow characters in the neck.

We have to stop this outbreak before it spreads to shows where these things are not expected like the Mindy Project or Chicago Fire or the Kardashians...

Oh.

Nevermind.

Managed to sit through the rather mixed pilot and was near stopping it but the end intrigued me enough to continue.. a good decision.

Well.. it's CW and some of the things have been mentioned already like ridiculously hot teenagers (every one of them), some gratutious shots (in the opening scene for cryin' out loud) and some very dumb plot decisions (they're going down to an irradiated planet and nobody bothered to pack a Geiger counter to see if they'll die now or in a few weeks?).

I caught up until the most recent episode and i must say the good outweighs the flaws.. for a CW show it is very final in some of the events that happen (and they happen unexpectedly) and the writing/tension improves from episode to episode.

It still can't shake some tired tropes like the love triangle and the reaction to some final events in the show hasn't happened or was not prominent enough to be believable but otherwise it has become watchable and i'll be looking forward to new episodes.
