Was there a point to it, other than being gimmicky and clear? Gotta love those soda companies, they'll do ANYTHING for that advertising edge. I do vaguely remember Crystal Pepsi, but I hope they never tried to sell it in cans. ;)

I miss Coke II.

I never had any idea what the difference was between it and regular Coke.

^Assuming we're talking about New Coke (which eventually became Coke II), it was apparently a significantly different formula.

I don't remember it being called New Coke. I just remember Coke II.

And I remember it tasting pretty much the same.

I actually really miss Nehi blue cream soda. :(

Oh Crystal Pepsi wasn't awful...you are awful! Blah!!!! :p

New Coke was kind of a big deal in 1985 as it was considered to be one of the biggest marketing f*** ups of all time.

It wasn't actually called "New" Coke on the can, it just said "New" near the top to signify the new formula. It completely replaced the original Coca-Cola forumla, you could not buy "old" Coke. There was a widespread backlash against it and Coca-Cola switched back to the old formula in less than three months.

They relaunched the old formula as Coca-Cola (or Coke) Classic and "New" Coke retained the Coca-Cola or Coke name. Eventually, in 1992, Coca-Cola renamed "New" Coke to Coke II and dropped the "Classic" part from the old formula's name. By around 2002, most North American Coca-Cola bottling plants had stopped producing Coke II although it is apparently still available in some other countries under various names.

The whole fiasco was largely limited to North America, however. The "old" Coca-Cola was never replaced in Europe, to my knowledge.

As I was born in 1985, I understand why I wouldn't be familiar with "New" Coke.

It does crack me up when foreigners come to my bar and ask for "Coke Lite." As I have never heard of such a thing, I give them Diet Coke.

Give me a Pepsi Free, if you wanna Pepsi kid your gonna pay for it...? whatever.

I was also born in 1985, but we discussed New Coke in business class when i was in college.

I loved Crystal Pepsi, it was like regular Pepsi with a hint of citrus flavor. I tried to hoard the stuff when they said it going away.

The Crystal Pepsi theme song: Right Now by Van Halen. SNL did a hilarious commercial called Crystal Gravy and they played the song, and were pouring the thick, clear stuff over meat.
